Biography

Whitecross is a Christian Metal band formed and founded by guitar virtuoso Rex Carroll (Fierceheart) in 1985 in Waukegan, IL. He joined forces with Scott Wenzel on vocals and they released their debut self-titled CD "Whitecross" on Pure Metal in 1987. Songs like Enough is Enough, Who Will You Follow, and the popular guitar solo, Nagasake (misspelled by the label) would bring life to the fast… Read more in Amazon's Whitecross Store

1.0 out of 5 stars What's the name of this band again?????!!, March 2, 2011

Well,it is Whitecross after all.But you could not tell from listening to this CD.Dave Zaffiro should get most of the blame here I'm afraid, since I know his production philosophy is to have total control over his projects.( Everything Zaffiro produces is usually excellent, like Holy Soldier, Broken Silence and his solo stuff. So I'm surprised to see his name on this!) The sound here is Nothing like vintage Whitecross;(with blazing guitar riffs and over the top soloing paired with rough hard edged vocals, mixed with compelling melodies. and some good/great Christian lyrics)Since the departure of Guitar virtuoso Rex Carroll the band has not been the same, but this is going way too far off the deep end.The other post Carroll WC CD's at least sounded close to WC,but this CD is just terrible!Vocalist Scott Wenzel, the bands only original member, has yet another line up and drastic sound change.Flytrap has kind of a grunge 90's anti technical sound, which I hate. Wenzel does not have a good enough voice to make this kind of understated music sound good......No guitar solos,at least that I can remember anyway. Lame "riffs" and basically no identity to the sound anymore.Everything I wanted to hear WC for are painfully absent here.Rex Carrolls other band King James sounds more like WC than this does.Scott Wenzels solo effort has a better sound,at least it has good guitar playing. There are a few OK songs here, and some OK lyrics, but this CD is worth only a dollar or two, maybe for those bits.(That's what I payed for it, at a thrift store)True Whitecross fans BEWARE!!!!!!!!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Flytrap (Audio CD)
OK, I've been a longtime Whitecross fan. To be honest, I preferred mostly the Rex Carroll era, but I loved a lot of the tracks on Unveiled and Equilibrium. So I got this to finish the collection.

There are some decent songs on it, but it is my least favorite album in the collection. I think they were trying to 'fit in' to the alternative 90's sound and weren't sure how to make it sound like the "Whitecross" sound. That's my opinion anyway.

There were enough songs on it for the price that I was happy with the purchase. I'm glad I waited though, because if I had spent $18 on it back in the day, I wouldn't have felt the same.

Overall, decent purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment, November 17, 2010
This review is from: Flytrap (Audio CD)
I'm a HUGE Whitecross fan, and this album is a disappointment compared to their other albums. The first song is awesome, and there a couple other pretty good ones. The rest of the album though is just OK at best. I would love to get the song Flytrap on an MP3 download.
