Book Description

October 1, 1992
When Jacqueline Wakeford's first book, Flytying Techniques, was published, the clarity of its instructional text and its high quality color photographs set new standards in flytying literature. Once again, she has made a major contribution to the flytyer's library with her new book, Flytying Tools and Materials, which will be the best of its kind for many years to come. It covers the subject of tools with great depth and thoroughness, but its uniqueness lies in its treatment of natural flytying materials. Lavishly illustrated with more than 220 color photographs (showing over 620 tools and materials) taken by Jacqueline's husband, David Hawker, it gives beginning and intermediate flytyers a reference for the natural coloration and appearance of hackles and winging materials - both feather and fur. In addition, it looks at tying threads, hooks, tinsels, and man-made products for bodies and wings, and discusses ways to sink and float flies. There are also chapters on dyeing, and on curing and preserving feathers, hair and fur. (8 1/2 X 11, 136 pages, color photos, diagrams, charts)

5.0 out of 5 stars My appreciation, June 9, 2004
This review is from: Flytying Tools and Materials (Hardcover)
Too bad I didn't have this book 30 years ago. In reviewing this great book I learned more things in three days than in a great many years tying all kinds of material. Great short explainations and the photos are superb. I recommend this book to all tyers

4.0 out of 5 stars Used to be the best reference book to have, July 20, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Flytying Tools and Materials (Hardcover)
I have a copy of this book and for a long time it was the best thing ever. Recently I have seen another book called "flytying tools and materials and where to get them" This book not only gives you a picture to reference it tells you a bit about the fur/feather/animal and where it is most common.

I found this more usefull especially when I started classic salmon fly tying. All that said it is an excellent book and well worth the money.
