Editorial Reviews

Review

"There are books and there are books and this is a feast for the eyes, informative, intriguing, invaluable. It belongs in a place of prominence on your coffee table. Flywater by Grant McClintock ($45.00, 224 over-sized pages) is a true page turner with more than 200 photographs and moving, tender, serene scenes from Henry’s Fork to Yellowstone to the Thompson River in British Columbia. An album and a keepsake, Flywater is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED." ~Frommer Luxury Travel

"A perfect coffee-table book...The photos are wonderful, the places all beautiful."
- Fly Rod & Reel

"Flywater contains voluptuous shots of sport's top water bodies in the West and has helped me make it through several dreary winters in the Pacific Northwest. The photography and layout is top-notch and you soon get the feeling that you would've given ANYTHING to have been one of the folks involved with putting this package together. Just be sure to wear a bib when looking inside so you don't make indelible drool marks on the pages!”

About the Author

Grant McClintock divides his time between his native Oklahoma and Montana. Over the years he has fished, guided, and photographed many of the great trout, steelhead, and salmon rivers in the United States. He is also the author of two books, Flywater—one of the definitive books in the fishing literary canon—and Watermark.

Tom Brokaw, a native of South Dakota, graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in political science. He began his journalism career in Omaha and Atlanta before joining NBC News in 1966. Brokaw was the White House correspondent for NBC News during Watergate, and from 1976 to 1981 he anchored Today on NBC. He was the sole anchor and managing editor of NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw from 1983 through 2004. In 1998, Brokaw became a best selling author with the publication of The Greatest Generation. He wrote The Greatest Generation Speaks in 1999 and An Album of Memories in 2001. In November 2002, Brokaw's fourth best selling book, A Long Way from Home, a reflective look about growing up in the American Heartland, was released. Brokaw continues to report for NBC News, providing expertise during breaking news events, and reporting and producing long-form documentaries for Tom Brokaw Reports.

The editorial reviews for this book (Fly Rod & Reel, Frommer's) really got it right. This book is PERFECT and a FEAST FOR THE EYES. It makes me want to move out West. Buy it for every fisherman or fisherwoman you know. I plan to do so!

This was a birthday gift for my 94th birthday from my daughter. She knew I had fished most of the spring creeks, streams and steelhead rivers that are displayed with excellent composition and great colors in this collection and that it would renew the memories of those ventures that have played a significant role in my life. It has done that and more. And the more is that even though the reader might not have fished those beautiful rivers and streams, he/she will enjoy the unusual vistas that have been captured most people will never see. The coverage of the delightful spring creeks that few know about, their constant flow and temperatures that produce prolific hatches of mayflies; the streams holding big trout and the steelhead rivers that harbor seagoing strains of rainbows that return hundreds of miles inland and grow to 30#; all make up a lasting vision of their beauty and existence even for a non angler. I recommend it highly. G. House

My father turned 93 and has always been an avid fisherman. He is in assisted-living and he and his care-givers take it page by page with my father adding his fishing stories.

Good photos and covered some great areas in the west to fish, but the pictures are a bit grainy and lacking in color quality.

This is a breathtaking work, filled with imagery that will draw you in and make you wish for the chance to get out into nature and experience the locations for yourself. I do not often purchase books purely for imagery, but after I opened this one I knew I had to own it. As an angler, you will be reminded of one of the strongest reasons we go to the waters. If you are not an angler, or are curious about this endeavor, this book may well bring you to commit to it. The vistas shown are exceptional, and even the occasional use of muted or lower resolution imagery cannot detract from the natural and personal feel of the work. I highly recommend it to any / all, but especially to my fellow anglers.
