5.0 out of 5 stars A new masterpiece from Billy Cobham
This has to be one of the best records I've ever heard! It's quite different from Cobham's early stuff; perhaps a bit more laid back. The musicians are phenomenal! Carl Orr's guitar playing is particularly masterful. The band is perfectly balanced, everyone playing to their utmost without any one musician hogging the glory. The songs are diverse, but they have a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Once again, the price.
I've been a fan of Mr. Cobham for over 25 years; in my opinion, this album is good. Good, as in right between the great ("Spectrum") and the worst ("B.C."). Definitely recommended for Cobham completists, but not necessarily for someone else.

My concern here, again, are the prices that sellers put on albums like this one, as if "Out of Print" meant "Must-have at...

5.0 out of 5 stars A new masterpiece from Billy Cobham, October 14, 1999
This review is from: Focused (Audio CD)
This has to be one of the best records I've ever heard! It's quite different from Cobham's early stuff; perhaps a bit more laid back. The musicians are phenomenal! Carl Orr's guitar playing is particularly masterful. The band is perfectly balanced, everyone playing to their utmost without any one musician hogging the glory. The songs are diverse, but they have a strong continuity because this group plays so well together and leaves their stamp on each track. To top off his unquestionable musicianship, Billy Cobham continues to break new ground as a composer. Four of his songs are featured, along with one by each of the band members. Focused is a must-have for any jazz-fusion fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars He's back!, December 19, 2002

After a couple of rather uninspired fusion-albums in the eighties, the very talented and exciting drummer Billy Cobham is back into business. This album has it almost all: remarkable drumming, interesting compositions and a lot of vitality in the playing of all sidemen. One of the better fusion-albums from the last decade!

This album ain't worth the amounts offered here at the moment of writing this. Don't fall for that.

Most of the songs are OK, and the performances are good. However, it lacks the pizzazz and fire of most of Billy Cobham's work, at least the ones I have heard. It just isn't that exciting as the others have been.

3.0 out of 5 stars Uninteresting, January 4, 2001
This review is from: Focused (Audio CD)
This Cd is not really good - the compositions ( expect Walking in Five)are uninteresting, Cobham's playing is not really amazing ( like we all expect), Cobham plays some great laid back grooves , but that was everything.....buy another Cobham album you'll be more happy!
