My daughter went to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal with her best friend for Halloween this year and started reading it on her friend's Kindle while they were in the car. Well, it must have scared her and good because she called me about an hour before they even got to Halloween Horror Nights very freaked out! Needless to say, I downloaded it when she got back so that we could both read it. And let me tell you: this book is super creepy. The stories are very well-written and have a LOT of elements of realism in them which just makes them even more scary. I like the diversity of stories, too. In my opinion short stories make the best horror stories and this book definitely supports that theory! If you are looking for a good collection of horror stories for older teens or adults, then this is a must buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent short story collection! March 27, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The stories, as advertised, were about people who had no hope of redemption! These were not happy stories by any means, but if you like tales of horror this could be just the thing. The stories were all well written and covered a wide variety, but shared a common thread in that they all were sad tales of characters reaching an unfortunate end.

Unlike most collections of short stories, when you find some of the stories to be great, but some others a drudgery to read, in this collection I must admit that even the ones that I didn't like it as well as the others were still very good.

This may not be everyone's idea of a good read for a somber evening, but being an author and a long time horror fan, I enjoyed the book immensely!

3.0 out of 5 stars Short, but to the point October 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The nine stories in this book are dramatic and disturbing, to some extent.
At the beginning it's hard to get in the stories because, obviously, there is not enough backgound info about the characters.
Some of the stories are like the last chapter of other books. Which is not bad, IMO. The thing for me is that they are very predictable, I found no real twists in the stories to make me go Wow!
The writing is good, the writer takes you where you are supposed to go with the narration: from the room of a torturer, to the cold space, to the house of a lovely old lady.
There's one thing, though. I had the sensation that in the first person stories it was the same character all along. The "voice" seemed the same, either it was femenine or masculine.
It was an ok read, especially since I got this for free (now it is like $5).
