Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Fodor's has put together some fun and cheerful travel guides for children of all ages for Washington, DC, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, and New York City. Each book describes 68 exciting things to do in the city it covers, with excursions to skyscrapers, parks, swimming pools, museums, and puppet theaters. Each site includes a "Hey Kids!" section noting some interesting history or trivia about the place or neighborhood and a "Kid-Friendly Eats" section that discusses three or four nearby restaurants that children would enjoy. Each book also has practical information about the sites, including addresses, telephone numbers, admission prices, hours, and the proper age group. It even has games to play while getting to the sightseeing destinations. These publications are small, easy to carry, and full of whimsical illustrations and will make wonderful travel guides for touring families. Recommended for all public libraries.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have - especially for parents with young children, March 27, 2000
This book is so easy to read. All sites are listed in alphabetical order, so there is no flipping to the index that I had to do with other books. It gives a good, parent based review on many of the most popular NYC sites.

5.0 out of 5 stars worked well for us, August 15, 2004
This review is from: Fodor's Around New York City with Kids, 2nd Edition: 68 Great Things to Do Together (Around the City with Kids) (Paperback)
The best thing about this guide is the format. It is arranged alphabetically and each 'attraction' is on a two-page spread and contains description, tips, address, hours, age range, website, cost AND nearby kid-friendly places to eat and a 'hey kids' fun fact or something to look for when visiting this attraction. There are cross-reference lists by category (parks, museums, sports, etc.) and by neighborhood. This is a supplement -- not the only guide to carry since it has no maps -- but lots of useful information.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless, June 14, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Fodor's Around New York City with Kids, 2nd Edition: 68 Great Things to Do Together (Around the City with Kids) (Paperback)
While this book does contain good descriptions of places to visit with kids it does not contain enough inforamation to function as a primary guidebook. It contains absolutely no general information about NYC, getting around, places to stay. It is not organized by neighborhood, has no maps, and gives no information on getting to the recommended venues. It also offers only very limited information on places to eat. In short, you can buy it as a supplement if you like (however, Frommers NYC with Kids lists all the same activities and provides all the necessary general info) but frankly I found this book to be useless.
