We went to Austria for a few weeks on our honeymoon, and this had to be one of the most valuable things we took. We visited Vienna and Salzburg, hiked all through the Alps, and took a small road trip through the Grossglockner Pass. Amazingly accurate descriptions in the book- tells you in advance about things like the cost for different attractions, the restaurant reviews are really helpful and spot on- from inexpensive delis all the way to five star restaurants. The things Fodor's recommended, we tried and LOVED. We don't speak German, so this was extremely helpful in getting around the smaller towns, and much more inclusive and up-to-date than the other travel books we had (we didn't even give those suitcase space on the way home!). It has clearly been written by those who know the country well- there were many beautiful places that we never would have found otherwise and are so glad we did. This is a must must MUST if you're going to Austria for the first time, or really for anyone who doesn't live there!

I just used this guide in Austria a few months ago. For those of you that want to look at pretty colorful pictures, go get a different guide. Likewise, those who wish to stay locked onto the "Rick Steeves" incomplete & narrow monorail ride through Disney-Europe. But, if you want to follow your own hunches and tastes, and be able to go ANYWHERE in the country, while still having information about great hotels, restaurants, places to see, phone numbers, web sites, hours of operation, etc., this guide will help tremendously! Enjoy your trip!

We have used both Fodor and Rich Steve's books. Bothpresent elegant and concrete approaches for those who like to create their own path to europe. No need to demean or discount either. Both offer surprises and delightful tips for the seasoned and novice traveller. Jack Schibik Naples Florida |
