If you are spending thousands of dollars on your trip, it is worthwhile to spend a few dollars on this excellent book and plan your trip so much better. When we plan a vacation, the first thing we ask ourselves is- what are we going to do there. Then we get on the Internet and try to make sense of what people are suggesting. This book tells you all without the hassle of browsing the internet and still not being sure of what to do. They mark interesting things with something called "Fodor's choice" and they have never disappointed.

Very strongly recommended.

My husband and I moved to California last fall and I recently bought this guidebook in preparation for a drive we took up the coast from LA to Monterey. The book was fine for that, but then we took a day trip to San Jose and there was almost NOTHING in this book about San Jose. San Jose is one of the biggest cities in the entire US and all we could find in the book was a single tiny paragraph that mentioned a couple museums--no restaurant suggestions, no sights to see, no lodging info. I couldn't believe it. We'll be heading to San Francisco in a couple months and so far the section on SF seems to be sufficient, but I still can't get over the lack of even the most basic info on San Jose. What a disappointment!

There is absolutely nothing in this guide about the entire Silicon Valley. We got the book because we were going to travel around San Fransisco and wanted to see things in the Valley, but could not find anything. Even Stanford University is missing. The computer museum in Mountain View, the cute towns of Log Gatos and Saratoga, the excitement of Palo Alto, nothing is included in the guide. Very disappointing and out-of-date. The authors of the book missed the boat big time. This is certainly not a guide for the new generation who wants to see where Steve Jobs came from and where he built his empire.

I guess only locals can tell if the book is really a good guide for California visitors. Me and my wife just got back from 2-week trip to California and used the book as our primary guide - I'd say it served the purpose well and hope we will use it again when visit California next time. Just one thing - not sure if that a result of recent hike in fees, but many attractions fees mentioned in the book was really 10-15% more than quoted.

We are planning a trip to CA in a couple of months and needed a really good overview of the area. This provides that overview!

Excellent! I used to have a very old one from a previous trip to the U.S. I found this new edition even better.

I expected a little bit more. But I could also go with this guide book.
