Not for the backpacker,
By Luke Sharp (Loris, SC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fodor's Costa Rica 2000 (Paperback)
I felt like this guide focused more on travelers with a larger budget than me. This is a good guide for someone who likes to see third world countries through the confort of a nice hotel. But, for backpackers and budget travelers, there is little useful information. On the other hand, if your idea of a fun vacation does not include staying in a cabinas with no hot water, this could be your guide, because each region of Costa Rica is covered and the maps are useful.

Choose Lonely Planet,
By L. Reinstein (Plantation, FL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fodor's Costa Rica 2000 (Paperback)
While Fodor's name is a truly reputable one, I would not suggest that this guide book be your only source of information. I went with a friend of the summer and found it to be a wonderful time to go. The book suggests not to go during the so called "rainy season," but it was beautiful then. We never missed a day do to rain. The book also tells its reader that the country is easy to travel by bus---rent a car if you have less than 2 weeks. There is too much to see. If you are looking for the most accurate and up to date information on Costa Rica choose Lonely Plant.
