3.0 out of 5 stars Informative, but poor at identifying key sights, unhelpful for choosing among locales, July 12, 2008
This review is from: Fodor's Exploring Ireland, 6th Edition (Exploring Guides) (Paperback)
A disappointing guide. Since it combines detailed, and thorough, information about all places of interest in Ireland with tons of photos, I thought it would be very helpful for narrowing down my possible choices for where to go. But it's very hard to tell from the somewhat bland and often dispassionate, though informative, descriptions what's worth seeing, much less what can't be missed.

Added to this, although it's packed with photos, it often doesn't include photos of the major places of interest, so you can very easily miss out on the most interesting places following this guide. After 10 minutes of internet research, I had a much better idea of where I wanted to go than after reading this book--and many of the places I hadn't really noticed in the book.

(For the record, the blarney stone is, of course, in this book, contrary to the other review.)

It's informative, but I'd recommend it to those who've already decided their destinations, and want more information about other places of interest in the same regions. Otherwise, skip it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very helpful, June 24, 2008
This review is from: Fodor's Exploring Ireland, 6th Edition (Exploring Guides) (Paperback)
This book did a good job of stating facts, but did not help guide me at all. The guide did no justice as to what are the major attractions or places to see. Additionally, some of my favorite memories from my trip were not recommended by the book, such as kissing the Blarney Stone. After two days in Ireland, I deemed the book worthless and packed it away. The locals did a better job of pointing out things to do and see.
