The heart of any trip lays with you, the traveler, but if you want to make the experience `one of a lifetime,' you'll need a little help. If France is your destination of choice Fodor will show you everything from the"quintessential France" of the cafés and brasseries to unusual places to explore, hike, bike or simply photograph.

Fodor fans have gotten together to pass along their suggestions on "how to get the biggest bang for your buck and still have a fabulously rich travel experience." In this day and age we all want to stretch a buck! Basic sections include Paris, Ile-De-France, the Loire Valley, Normandy, Brittany, Champagne, Alsace-Lorraine, Burgandy, Lyon & the Alps, Provence, the French Riviera, the Midi-Pyrénés & Languedoc-Roussillon, the Basque Country, Gascony & Haute-Pyréénes, Bordeaux & the Wine Country and the Dordogne.

Each section orients you to the area giving such essentials as how to get around, lodging, attractions, weather conditions, places to explore, the geography, maps and many more vignettes about your chosen destination. There is a key in the front to check against the hundreds of listings that will give you an honest Fodor rating from people who have traveled there before. If you find something amiss in any description, the editors welcome you to write to them.

There is a pull out map of Paris in the back of the book, but I would recommend a Fast Track or other laminated map of your choice as this one may not hold up if you are a real go-getter. There is a mini French vocabulary in the back, but an inexpensive translator would serve you better. This is a great book for the armchair traveler, but a must for anyone from the jet setter to the family setting out on their trip of a lifetime. Fodor's new (and always improving) France 2009 is a must have!

THEY ARE VERY IGNORANT; I was chocked to see thatTHEY mention my birthtown in south eastern Burgundy; Troyes is in Champagne.
By the way, they say the people of Troyes do not like when you say they are from Burgondy. It is like you we say that NEW YORK IS IN WEST VIRGINA. HOW COULD YOU DARE TO SELL A BOOK FULL OF MISTAKES; I AM ASHAMED FOR THEM; DO NOT BUY THIS COLLECTION;DO NOT BUY FODOR, THEY ARE AMATEUR, NOT AT ALL PROFESSIONNAL, HOWEVER THEY TRY TO IMPRESS YOU WITH THEIR PICTURES AND APPEARANCE.

SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH; I NEVER STUDY YOUR LANGUAGE, LEARN A FEW WORDS AND EVERYDAY SENTENCES,

ANDRE
