Whether you're headed to a circuit party or on a business trip, Fodor's Gay Guide USA is the ultimate source for what's where and what's gay. Some of the hot new destinations include: the Hamptons, NY; Santa Barbara, CA; Telluride, CO; Asheville, NC; Park City, UT; as well as the Canadian cities of Toronto, Quebec, Montreal, and Vancouver.

The book is organized geographically by region for easy use and each city or town entry includes a section on The Lay of the Land; Eats; Scenes- for both men and women; Sleeps; and The Little Black Book which lists additional resources including media, bookstores, gyms, etc. The book offers lodging and dining options in all price ranges. Information is provided for every segment of the community including both exclusively gay resorts and beaches to mainstream hotels and nightlife. Also included throughout the book are over 50 helpful maps for navigating.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

For gay adults, one practical problem is traveling?not every locale is tolerant. In Fodor's Gay Guide to the USA: The Only Comprehensive Guide for Gay and Lesbian Travelers, Andrew Collins covers 40 destinations including such top tourist locales as New York City, Washington, D.C. and Nashville and places that have an established gay culture, such as Fire Island, South Beach, Provincetown and Rehoboth Beach. Through maps and listings of hotels, restaurants, and "scenes" (clubs and bars complete with descriptions of the crowd you might find, "young, white, guppie, often stuck-up, gym boys" or, perhaps, "some stand-and-model, more urban than preppy, plenty of disco bunnies") and general information, Collins gives readers a good idea of the city and its accommodations (May, Fodor's, $19.50 ISBN 0-679-02909-5).

4.0 out of 5 stars The listings are right but misnamed ., August 17, 1999
By A Customer
Just looking over my hometowns review I found them correct in substance but wrong in form. Cleveland has a neighborhood called "WEST PARK" that the book names WEST EDGE>. While not devastating to the overall value of the text it would leave a visitor here asking for a place that residents wouldn't recognize. I'm not sure if the other cities reviewed suffer from similar mistakes. Going to Orlando 8/24 and San Francisco 9/3 so I'll note any discrepancies.

I think Andrew Collins did a good job of summarizing the scene in each city listed. It's obviously the most thorough first-hand accounts of the nation's gay cities on the market.

The book is well organized for an easy finding of where in the country you want to visit, if where you plan to visit is listed! Check out the TOC before buying...
To me, the biggest let down was an absence of gay cruising places. I'm an old man and don't care for the wild hunting for hot spots. There are cities' "Little Black Books" on media, bookstores and working out. Good thing I bought it for the traditional "lay-of-the-land" (good) and "Sleeps" (very good).
