5.0 out of 5 stars An Armchair Travel Adventure, May 1, 2006
This review is from: Fodor's Guide to The Da Vinci Code: On the Trail of the Best-Selling Novel (Paperback)
I wasn't expecting much from this book at first. Why would Fodor's review a book? But as I crept in from page to page it made perfect sense. The book evokes every scene and landscape in the Da Vinci code, bringing new layers of both the book and the scenes its set in to life. A totally engaging read. Even if you can't travel to Europe to explore this first-hand, this book will totally reel you in, making you feel like you've been there. It made me want to read the Da Vinci code again.

4.0 out of 5 stars More fun than the Movie?, March 30, 2006
This review is from: Fodor's Guide to The Da Vinci Code: On the Trail of the Best-Selling Novel (Paperback)
I love the Da Vinci Code. I am excited about the movie to no end and until they come out with action figures or dvds of the movie this book is going a long way to scratching my Da Vinci Code itch. I found it on the shelf and loved the idea the book gave me of going on a Davinci trip (!),and of getting inside the adventure myslef.

Part of what made me the book so much was its globe hopping adventure...pentrating the locations it took us too in such unexpected ways. I don't think Westminster ever looked quite so interesting as when imagining what secrets the historical details might hold. and THIS book...well it dovetailed right into that. I couldn't care a fig for the "divine feminine" books blah blah blah...not my cup of tea to endlessly argue something that can never be proved. But what I can't argue against is that this guide book offers a pretty compelling reason to go investigate the clues on my own.

So now while I wait for the movie to come out I spend my free time planning my own Da Vinci code trip to puzzle out those details own my own. Personally more than anything else I want to visit each of the artworls that were such an integral part of the tale Mr. Brown wove. Even my kids are into it. Sort of like a game to them (except this one will be in france, not the park) And believe me it is hard to get them into an art museum much less a cathedral (but they will thank me for it later!).

If you are hungering for more Davinci code goodness and are tired of just books that claim to crack the code...grab this it will remind you of everything you loved about the book to begin with .

5.0 out of 5 stars WAY More Than a Travel Guide, April 18, 2006

When I first saw this book, I assumed it was just a travel guide (since it's Fodor's) -- but it's actually so much more.

I only just read The Da Vinci Code (must have been the last in the world) so my appetite for any and all related material is still raging.

This book's way better than one of those special issues of Newsweek that rehash the same old theories -- it totally hit the spot. The photos are amazing and the essays are smart and funny. And I'll definitely go back to the travel info when I plan my next trip Europe.
