woth the investment
I have been to italy 4 times in the last 5 years each time using the the fodors italy book as my source of all touring, lodging, and dinning needs. This publication has always been on the money. The maps accurate and facts of historical sights perfect. get it.

Good, but not good enough
The plus points of the book are the city maps and the organization (each sight/hotel/restaurant gets its own paragraph). However, in terms of content, the Lonely Planet guide is a lot more informative (it's a pity a new edition was not out when I made my trip in May 2000). Some of the information in the Fodor's 2000 Guide is outdated--we ended up making trips to...

Definitely one of the best, July 17, 2001

The Newsweek described Fodor's as "king of guidebooks" - and it really comes close to this. If this book had as many pictures as Eyewitness Guide, it would be perfect. Where it beats the latter hands down is its listings section, and town maps with indexed landmarks are very helpful. European readers may notice that the practical tips are quite American-focused, but I do not see any problem with this. Most of the advice is applicable to any traveller. Money well spent.
