We are going on a vacation to New England this fall - Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. I got a whole group of books out of the library, and this one impressed me enough to buy it so we can take it with us. It's much better than the AAA book, or any of the other guide books I found (and I had five different ones just for Maine!). It has clear listings of what not to miss, and covers hotels, restaurants and attractions.

We just got back from an enjoyable trip from the coast of Maine and this book definitely helped with the experience. Problem was, two things recommended by the book were no longer there. One was small; a whale museum was now a construction site, but other nearby museums fit the bill. One was more of a big deal. The CAT, the ferry between Bar Harbor and Halifax is no longer running but is given prominent space in the book and was part of our itinerary. We ended up driving to St. John's, NB instead, but it wasn't the same. So lesson learned: double check any big items on your itineraries before going on the trip because even though we bought this new edition, it still had a few misses.

Hard to imagine someone publishing a travel book of Maine and not include a single color image. Sorry black text on white pages just doesn't do the beauty of the state justice!
