I used this book for a trip to Mexico's Copper Canyon. I liked it for background information.

HOTEL INFO: I needed a hotel after the flight into Los Mochis the night before catching the train to Creel the next day and I narrowed my choice down to the Best Western Los Mochis and the Santa Anita.

According to the book:
Best Western Los Mochis "Pros: helpful staff; on the main square. Cons: bland personality; NEIGHBORHOOD IS SKETCHY AT NIGHT."

Santa Anita "Pros: well-appointed rooms; LIVELY NEIGHBORHOOD. Cons: staff can be uppity; labyrinthine public areas."

A sketchy neighborhood at night? Is it in the red light district? I sure don't want to stay there with my family. So I went and found both of these hotels on Google Maps. They're three blocks apart on opposite sides of the plaza. They're in the same neighborhood. So is it sketchy (a bad thing), or is it lively (a good thing)?

The book is inconsistent.

For the record, I stayed at the Best Western and didn't see anything wrong with the neighborhood. At night there were couples walking around, people going shopping, and vendors selling everything from tacos to coconuts.

I bought this book for my trip to chiapas. There were 3 major things wrong with this book. The first is that if you are looking to travel as cheap as possible, like me, this book is not for you. The hotels they recommended ranged from $50-$200 a night per person. I found a hostel for $10. The biggest issue for me tho was the maps and directions(or lack there of). I had a hard time finding my way around because the book did not have a maps for the location I was in, it seemed to only have maps at really popular destinations like Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Cancun. The last thing that I did not like about this book is the lack of information on transportation. For example it would tell me that there is a bus that runs from Point A to Point B but it did not always tell me the cost and where to the location, or how to get there. Overall I was very frustrated with this book in my travels, I ended up just carrying it around in my backpack for a week.

I wanted this to be able to decide on what cities to visit, so i purchased this to be able to get some information. It has a good overview of the cities i might want to visit. There are also hotels and restaurants. I wish there was a detailed map with numbers on the streets so I could know where the hotels are located with respect to shopping, museums, etc. That would be super beneficial.
