My fiance and I are going to Nova Scotia on our honeymoon this summer. This guide was the best one I've found. We're also going to Prince Edward Island and this book covers all of the Atlantic provinces. It even has sample itineraries which have been helpful because we are creating a honeymoon registry. Great buy! I would also recommend requesting free information from the tourist office of NS, they send out an informative brochure/book.

This review is from: Fodor's Nova Scotia & Atlantic Canada, 10th Edition: With New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador (Travel Guide) (Paperback)
Fodors guide provided many tips that were helpful on our recent trip to Canada. We visited New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. I felt that their reviews of some sites & restaurants were a bit inflated, but that is a personal opinion. One example, they suggested eating at the Sou'Wester at Peggy's Cove, NS and ordering Solomon Gundy. The Sou'Wester is in an ideal location, but the food is only fair - it is fairly priced, but it was certainly not the best food we enjoyed on the trip. The Solomon Gundy was an appetizer of herring, sour cream and onion. I did not enjoy it at all, but others might. Another example, Fodor's recommended Carr's Oyster Barr in Stanley Bridge, PEI. They indicated the oysters were "possibly the best on the planet." I would have to disagree with them on that call, but again, that's a personal preference.

That being said, this book was extremely helpful in the planning of our trip. We used it as a reference numerous times on our trip, as well. The sites they suggest are worth seeing (as are most places in the maritime provinces!). One problem we had was determining where best to view the Tidal Bore. Fodors did not recommend a particular location as "the best" but over the course of our trip, we made enjoyed the view and the effect at Parrsboro, NS. We also viewed the tides at Hopewell Rocks, which was very cool, but Parrsboro gets my vote as an excellent location to experience some of the world's highest/lowest tides.

If you're planning a trip to Canada's maritime provinces, this book is the most helpful book I read (and I read at least 3 supplemented with information from each province's visitor information centers). I would suggest that you request copies of the literature available from the visitor's centers since those will offer an updated, more thorough listing of accommodations and restaurants. However, if you only want to purchase 1 book, this is the one to purchase.

We found this book to be very useful for planning a future trip to the Maritime Provinces of Canada. It provided information on cruise services and some of their itineraries, along with the usual and very useful information on each of the localities.
