4.0 out of 5 stars Fodor's New Orleans 2008
This book is well done and seems up to date following the Katrina nightmare. Lots of excellent info and much that is helpful re all aspects of entertainment including the French Quarter and far beyond. Very worthwhile purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointed with Amazon
I was a bit disappointed with Amazon as usually the product ships out immediately and in excellent shape. This time, the product shipped out immediately but was dog-earred on the binding. As it was a gift and I was pressed for time, I had no recourse but to give it as a gift and apologize for the condition. Hopefully, quality control will improve in future shippings.

4.0 out of 5 stars Timely guide to a city's rebirth, March 11, 2008

The Fodors 2008 Guide to New Orleans is a valuable tool to anyone visiting New Orleans because the guide provides up-to-date information on the recovery status of many hospitality mainstays. The main tourist areas of New Orleans have made almost complete recoveries from hurricaine Katrina. Unfortunately, other areas still have far to go. As with all Fodors guides, this book provides a diverse array of restaurants, hotels, and attractions to suit almost any taste. The guide is particularly valuable because it provides updated information on whether facilities were open at the time of publication or were expected to reopen soon. In cases of uncertainty, the guide frequently provides information on how to check the status, such as an internet site. The only thing that this guide lacks is a useful overall map to the city. A neighborhood map of each district is located with each review topic (e.g., restaurants), but nothing ties all of these small maps together in a useful whole. Overall, the guide is worth the money because it narrows the field of choices to a reasonable cross-section for a visit.
