5.0 out of 5 stars great general book on NZ
We visited NZ on our honeymoon for 2.5 weeks in September 2010, and this book proved to be an invaluable guide of things to do, places to eat, things to see, etc. Highly recommended!

I usually like Fodor's and have a few of their guides for the United States, but this guide was a bust for me. If you want to go to New Zealand and spend a lot of money doing all the usual things that tourists do, this is the guide for you. I went to New Zealand to see the amazing countryside. New Zealand is very geared toward outdoors tourism and there are "i" booths in almost every town, even small ones, that will have their equivalent of the Automobile Club regional guides. These guides give lots of choices for things to do and reasonably priced places to stay. Not only that, the "i" booth personnel will find a hotel/motel in your price range and book it for you. Whenever we looked into the Fodor's guide we invariably found the swankiest place to stay or the backpacker's choice with very little in between. The guide also did not have many of some of the most beautiful places we saw - caves, springs, and so many breathtaking walks and hikes that we only found through those AA guides at the "i" booth. I left that heavy Fodor's guide at the last hotel. My advice is to save your money and get your information directly from the Kiwi's mouth.
