Book Description

July 1, 2001
In a world where it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain a dominance in any sporting discipline, Fogarty has won the World Superbike Championship no fewer than four times including back-to-back wins. Carl has come a long way since the early 1980s when he used to travel to circuits as far away as Finland in a clapped-out old horsebox. But those early days were also wild and enjoyable times. Tales of hell-raising abound: staggering home at five in the morning before the Isle of Man TT was clearly not the best preparation for one of the most dangerous races in the world. This autobiography tells his tale of a working class Lancashire boy made good in one of the most dangerous and glamorous of sports.

Review

"brutal, unrelenting honesty leaps from every page" The Daily Telegraph

From the Publisher

Carl Fogarty ‹ "Foggy" to his legion of fans around the world ‹ is a Superbike legend. He's the number-one box office attraction of the World Superbike Championship, which he's won a record four times, among other world crowns. He's also something of a sports rarity. Not only is he a consistent British world champion, but superstar status hasn't distorted his honest, down-to-earth approach to life. Foggy is a typically frank account of his transformation from shy, awkward teenager to self-assured sports hero. Fogarty also talks about the perils of motorcycle racing, the personal tragedies, track rivals, and the big money deals that have made him a multi-millionaire. A compelling self-portrait of a working class lad who rose to the top of one of the most glamorous and dangerous arenas in world sports.

5.0 out of 5 stars Foggy, January 9, 2001

For all those fans of Carl Fogerty and for any fan of racing, this book is worth the price. It lets you in on the hardships and the triumphs of professional racing. Foggy's candor makes for an entertaining read. You'll expand your vocabulary with great Blackburn colloquialisms as well. Even if you are not a fan, you'll grow to like him for what he is, a racing legend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very candid, April 30, 2001

This review is from: Foggy (Hardcover)
I think Neil Bramwell made few changes to what Carl wrote. The writing is not great but that is what makes this book good. Nobody is spared and Foggy tells it all (even details of his wedding night). Foggy also tells many embarassing stories on himself. It is a delightful read. The only reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 is that he is constantly making excuses about the times he was beaten and bragging about how easy it was when he won. But, on the other hand, what do you expect from Carl? I am not a fan of his but I really loved this book. If you are a fan of world superbike racing, I think you should definitely buy this book.

If you are a motorcycle race fan, I highly suggest you read Foggy, the biography of Carl Fogarty. This book will teach you so much about the tale behind the motorcycle races. Foggy tells of many different things that he went through to make it on top, which he held for many years. I highly recommend reading this book.
