Less Comfortable to Use Than Safety 1st Nail Clipper 49523/49539,

This review is from: Fold-up Baby Nail Clipper from Safety 1st (Baby Product)
Safety 1st makes several nail clippers for babies, including model 49523 (Safety 1st Hospital's Choice Steady Grip Nail Clippers); model 49539 (Safety 1st Complete Nail Care Set) which includes what seems to be clippers similar to model 49523 but with a holder at the back for emery boards; and model 10435 (this one). All three of these nail trimmers are in the "Hospital's Choice" series.
Overall, I prefer the 49523/49539 model (see Customer Images) because it is more comfortable to hold for the following reasons. First, instead of a small white plastic bulb, the 49523/49539 has a larger white-and-orange or white-and-blue handle that allows you to hold the clippers like a "gun" with your index finger under the blades and your thumb on the lever. Second, the orange or blue part of the 49523/49539 handle is soft and less slippery than the white plastic of this model. Third, the lever has the same soft orange or blue non-skid rubbery material at the end, thus providing a cushion for your thumb. In terms of cutting nails, the very good performance of this model and the 49523/49539 are the same. (They both leave the nail edges a little sharp, so some filing is necessary.) So I recommend purchasing the 49523/49539 instead.

~*~*~BEST BABY NAIL CLIPPERS(I've tried a lot)~PERFECT SIZE~EASY TO CUT TINY NAILS~*~*~,
This review is from: Fold-Up Nail Clipper by Safety 1st (Baby Product)
These are hands down the best baby nail clippers I have used and I'll explain why.
Grip Size-this size is perfect, not too small, not too big. If you had these nail clippers w/out the white grip part it would be harder to hold. We have several pairs of them and they tend to turn in your fingers as you try to cut the nails. Then there are the nail clippers that have TOO much to hold onto. Some people might like the ones that you grip in your whole hand but to me you just can't get very precise when trying to cut tiny nails. With these, I typically grip the white part between my thumb & pointer finger but I can also hold it many different ways and it is still easy to cut tiny nails. Clipper Size-these have the perfect small size to easily cut tiny nails, now there are 'safety' clippers that have extra material around the clipper part but I HATE those. Not only do they make seeing the nails hard, it is hard to get the nails in to actually cut them. If you are too afraid to use these regular clippers and need the added safety material, you probably shouldn't be trying to cut a baby's nails. Clipper Sharpness-these are so sharp, makes cutting tiny nails very easy and quick in one click. I've got other nail clippers and they only bend their nail or will barely cut it and then I have to keep clipping several times to get it to actually cut the nail off. It is like using knives in the kitchen, a dull knife is a lot more dangerous than a sharp one if you're trying to cut something. My girls were both really small when they were born and their nails were actually too thin to cut at first. We could only file them. Once my girls nails were able to be cut we tried at least 4 different kinds of clippers with NO success before buying these. My daughters nails were TINY and these made it a lot easier to cut their nails. I've actually used these to cut my nails and they work better than my adult sized clippers. Also, you don't need the clippers with the magnifying glass or the attached light, they don't work very well at all. Note: These clippers do cut straight across so you'll probably have to round the edges of their nails with a file. I've used nail clippers that are rounded but depending on your childs nail size(and no nail size is the same) they either dont cut enough or cut too much. I like these that cut straight across because you can get a closer-more precise cut. And I always fild their nails after they are cut no matter what so they are nice & smooth & won't scratch themselves. My girls are 14 months old and I've had these since right after they were born so I've used these clippers a lot and they are not dull at all.

Fingernails down, the best clippers,

We bought this nail clipper when our first child was a baby, and were quite pleased--the bulb end is so easy and comfortable to hold, worked great until she was about school age, when her nails were tougher. When baby #2 came along, we had lost the clippers in the course of moving. I never appreciated how something so seemingly trivial as baby nail clippers can end up so important--but after buying and throwing away two other nail clippers, that were so hard to hold and which couldn't even cut through the baby nail cleanly or with ease (this is one job you need the right tools for--it is hard enough to cut those eensy nails on flailing hands, but to need more than one try to get the clippers to bite through the nail, it makes the job near impossible, at least without reducing your baby to screaming). I could not find these clippers at our local Target-like stores, nor at the drug stores. So I ended up getting a pair online--and having realized how uncommon good clippers are, I bought five pairs at once, so I could give them to new parents as shower gifts!
And that second pair we bought, I should add, is now cutting nails on its fourth child, and is still sharp enough! Definitely the must-have baby nail clipper.

Clipping baby nails is one of the most stressful things. This nail clipper is small, but handles very well and the thicker handles make it an easier process. Well-made... we have been using ours for over 2 years without problems.

Too awkward,

I purchased these, thinking they looked comfortable to use. They're not. They are a pair of normal, plain baby nail cutting clippers with a plastic bulbous structure attached to it. They are awkward to use, as there is no grip. I think if the handle was made of a rubber like material or had finger contours, then perhaps this would be a much better product. For the price, I can't complain, but I personally didn't find them any easier to use than your ordinary run-of-the-mill clippers. They do cut the nails well though.

This nail cutter originally came to us in a baby-care gift set when my first daughter was born. We've used it for her and my son for about 5 years. Upon moving to Boston, it was discovered missing and I tried several others, assuming there wouldn't be much difference. How wrong was I? I finally just ordered this again through Amazon and am very pleased yet again and so is my little 3 month old.

not sharp enough,
This review is from: Fold-up Baby Nail Clipper from Safety 1st (Baby Product)
this thing doesn't work well at all - you'd think it's a simple product, but for a fidgety baby with small fingers, you really want something precise and sharp, to cut the nail on the first snip. this clipper doesn't accomplish the job. we ended up using one that a friend passed along, and really noticed the difference (though I don't have the brand name for you). i've also heard great things about the file--less risky.

This is baby nail clipper #4 that we've tried, and our search is finally over. It's sharp enough to cut nails on the first try and the white bulb is pretty comfortable to hold. What more do you need in a pair of baby nail clippers?
The losers: - Safety 1st model 49539 (has the holder for emery boards) - the grip is comfortable but the clippers are blunt and therefore useless. The emery board is useful. - Dubon baby nail clipper (the kind that you wear on your finger like a ring) - has the safety guard so you don't catch the baby's skin in the clippers, but that makes it almost impossible to clip the actual nail. Plus, it's not sharp and therefore worthless. - Nuby infant nail clipper - not bad in terms of sharpness, but something about the way it's designed makes it really difficult to get at the baby's nails. Search ends here, thank goodness! |
