Got alot of crab, but the trap isn't great made,

We crabbed with 4 different traps, and this trap got the most of crabs!! But after few hours of use, the opening sides start to break, I guess it's from the crabs that were trying to enter into the trap. Other then that, it catches a lot more crabs than the other 3 different types of traps that we had.

I bought 4 of these traps and tried them a couple of weeks ago on a tributary creek off the Chesapeake Bay. The crabs are running pretty good this year so the traps got a good workout. I found the traps to be efficient at catching crabs. They are well designed to allow the crabs to enter through a nylon funnel that also prevents the crabs from getting out of the trap. Hence, the traps don't require watching or frequent lifting. Another important advantage of these traps is they are collapsible and take up very little storage space in the car.
Despite the ingenious design and efficiency, the traps seem very fragile and I doubt they will last very long. They are made of light nylon cord and a wire frame. They would have been much improved by using a somewhat heavier nylon cord that would stand up to big Jimmys and other abuse. The wire frame is covered by plastic but it doesn't stop the wire frame from rusting. The clips that open and close the trap are too fragile to last more than a few uses. There is no specific place to tie the lines that lift the trap to the surface, so you have to decide where/how to attach the lines. I had to completely untie the line on the trap every time I wanted to open it to get the crabs. In sum, I would love this trap if it wasn't so cheaply built. I doubt I'll buy any more of this particular trap.

I bought this trap almost four years ago and still it catches amasing amounts of crab fish prawn and more. once or twice I was able to catch a few eels and pufferfish this trap will catch tons of creatures but if you leave it iin the water for too long they will esape after about 3 days
