Reviews were so mixed on this product, I was nervous about it working. But I followed the directions and it worked! Painted my base coat (semi-gloss) and let that completely dry. Then I applied the crackle medium and let that dry completely...approx 1-2 hours. And then applied the top coat of flat paint in different color than the base coat. Painted the top coat in same direction as the crackle medium with a foam brush. You have to move fast and do small sections at a time. It started to crackle almost immediately. Turned out just as I hoped! Very happy!

I followed the directions on the bottle and got good results. There are several steps to produce results so, it takes time. It requires patience and technique. Two contrasting paint colors must be used. Layers must dry completely. Brush Crackle Medium in one direction.

I have used many different crackle mediums over the years and this is definitely the worst. In fact I once did a 13' x 13' library, with floor to ceiling bookshelves on all sides, with a crackle finish. I let this product dry overnight - about 12 hours. When I put the topcoat on it ran on any surface that wasn't horizontal and the horizontal surfaces look more marbled than crackled. It's a given that all crackle mediums are finicky but this one is impossible. I am getting ready for a craft show tomorrow and my display case is ruined. Wish I could get my money back or had started a month ago so I would have time to sand this all down and repaint. Very frustrating.

I tried a different crackle medium and it was really hard to get a thick enough layer to make it crackle. With this, you literally just paint it on, let it dry, then paint over it with a different color. After the top color dried, I wiped it with a wet cloth so the color just showed in the cracks. It looks amazing!

This worked great. I live in a one horse town and didn't want to go looing for a craft store. My door looks, "Simply marvelous darling." Easy instructions!

I have worked with crackle finishes many times, however, Folk Art Crackle Medium did not do what it was supposed to do. Very disappointed.
