5.0 out of 5 stars Great political satire July 25, 2003
Format:Audio CD
There are actually two Foremen albums entitled Folk Heroes, and the second one is listed by Amazon. Some amazing political satire done folk style. In today's political climate, ruled by hate radio, and conglomerate media outlets, songs like these wouldn't find airplay: Conservatives sling mud, liberals have clever lyrics and real humor. The Foremen are often compared to Tom Lehrer which is a bit unfair for both. They over lap in concise wit, fine rhymes, musical variety and in how they skewer the political dunderheadedness of the day. But the Foremen are a group and Lehrer was one guy on a piano, and they culture they puncture is decades apart. Both recommended, of course. And if you can find the first Folk Heroes used or somesuch, pick that one up too.

5.0 out of 5 stars We used to wanna sing like Joan Baez March 11, 2004
Format:Audio CD
The Foremen were a folk group that sang political satire songs (they have since broken up). This is their major label debut (they previously had a self released album with a lot of the same songs). This is a very funny album, especially if you are a liberal. Of course, most of these songs are topical, so they refer to events that occurred in the early to mid '90s. If you have a short memory, you might not get what these songs are about. Most of the songs have a liberal slant, although Bill Clinton gets lampooned in "Do The Clinton". This is album is hilarious, and I recommend it for liberals with a good sense of humor.

5.0 out of 5 stars They're MY Heroes March 12, 2010
Format:Audio CD
I've never thought of myself as a lucky person but I was certainly fortunate one Thursday night in 1995 I tuned my radio in early to catch "Music of the Isles", a show that featured Irish & Scottish folk music To this very day I'm not sure what show preceded the one I was aiming for but it hadn't quite ended yet and this is where the lucky part came in--I heard the last number they played that night. It was by a group called The Foremen and it was called "My Conservative Girlfriend."

"She's a real type 'A', And she's over insured.
Her favorite castaway is Thurston Howell the third.
She doesn't like big government so it's no surprise
I can be her lover long as I downsize."

Chorus:
"My conservative girlfriend
Got a tiny little heart full of passion,
My conservative girlfriend,
Every Friday we go Liberal bashin'."

It's much funnier when it's sung and I almost peed my pants because I was laughing so hard. I immediately began a search for their CD and found it with very little trouble at Bananas, our local record store dealing in the exotic. This CD is one of the best purchases I've ever made in my life. It's a Liberal's dream come true and it sort of reminds me of the hay day of the old Chad Mitchell Trio when they were knocking out songs like "The John Birch Society," because not only are The Foremen socially and politically oriented but like the Mitchell Trio they are also extremely good vocalists. All of The Foremen's material is written by Roy Zimmerman who, in addition to vocals, also plays acoustic & electric guitar and long-neck banjo. Other group members are Doug Whitney (vocals, acoustic guitar plectrum banjo, mandolin), Kenny Rhodes (vocals, back crack) , and Andy Corwin (vocals, stand-up bass).

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious! September 6, 2013
By Bobster
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Unlike any other group out there, The Foremen blend funny lyrics and folk music in a most irreverent style. I laughed out loud to "Firing The Surgeon General". Made me purchase the whole album.

1.0 out of 5 stars Typical left-wing claptrap of the 90's put into song November 23, 2011
Format:Audio CD
If one understands the world totally black and white, i.e. one thinks that "BHO is the opposite of GWB", then one might catch the drift of the Folk Heroes' lyrics. Otherwise, it's a pinko-commie propaganda for the gullible. The singing is against everything and anything "Conservative": churches and Christianity - of course!, against Pat Buchanan, against conservative girlfriend, against.... oh, you get the picture. Liberal gooood! Conservative baaaad!

Offered for a penny per CD, but not worth even that. Worthless.
