Biography

Singer-guitarist John Lee Hooker (1917-2001) was one of the most successful blues artists of the second half of the 20th century, yet his hypnotic brand of blues was in many ways a throwback to earlier times, before rules of rhyme, meter, and chord structure became standardized. The Clarksdale, Mississippi-born musician burst on the national scene with his first record, "Boogie Chillen," which… Read more in Amazon's John Lee Hooker Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Some Folklore of the journey, November 17, 2011

The Folklore of John Lee Hooker (Collectables): While his album "Travelin'" was about being on the road, the "Folklore of John Lee Hooker" seems to give us stories of the different stops along that road. Sometimes John Lee seems so intent on telling us the story that he almost forgets to play the music. Despite the great intensity of this album, I can't quite rank it as high as his greatest classics, but this one is most certainly worthy of owning and playing (a lot).

4.0 out of 5 stars If you want the BLUES, June 20, 2000

This review is from: Folk Lore of John Lee Hooker (Audio CD)
If you want the blues, then buy this album. It is spectacular. The two live songs are a great added bonus to an already spectacular album.
