4.0 out of 5 stars It provides excellent alternatives to the traditional drinks, July 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Folk Wines, Cordials and Brandies How to Make Them, (Hardcover)
While this book lacks the modern technical knowledge that most books today possess, it does give a variety of alternative, and CHEAP recipes. This book is written for the mason jar brewer, but also has some very helpful information for veterans. Where else will you learn to make onion wine?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for the amateur wine maker, April 25, 2011
This review is from: Folk Wines, Cordials and Brandies How to Make Them, (Hardcover)
I have had this book since the early 70's as a college student. I have made countless wines using recipes in the book and have never had a bad batch. I remember drinking a mead that a friends wife made from the book and I was hooked. Had to get my copy. Just started back making some wine after a divorce and looking for a hobby. I made some pear wine last summer which is ready for drinking now and is fantastic. You won't need any chemicals or fancy equipment although I do use gallon jugs with an airlock or a carboy for a large batch with an airlock, after fermenting in a bucket for a couple weeks.

5.0 out of 5 stars The author shares his love and recipes for homemade wines., December 10, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Folk Wines, Cordials and Brandies How to Make Them, (Hardcover)
I picked up this book at the library without any particular interest in the subject. The author's knowledge and love for vernacular wines fascinated me. The author is a gifted story teller and introduces each recipe with either a historical note or personal story. I came to browse, stayed to read and then went on to make both blueberry and raspberry wine. Excellent!
