From the Back Cover

The Folklore of Birds is a celebration of the beauty and glory of birds - their histories, their personalities and their influence on our world. Arranged alphabetically, this collection describes 100 birds found in the United States, supplying ornithological/scientific detail as well as background information on the many stories, legends, superstitions and folktales these birds have inspired. Each entry includes common and scientific names; genus, species and family identification; description; habitat and range; and unusal and fascinating information about each bird. Striking illustrations of the birds accompany the text. (7' x 10', 240 pages, bibliography, index)

8 of 9 people found the following review helpful By Corinne H. Smith VINE VOICE on September 28, 2001
Format: Hardcover
A nice companion volume to _Wildflower Folklore_ by the same author, and it follows the same format. A physical description of each bird is accompanied by a realistic line drawing of it, and then the folklore comes along. These comments might include name origins or unusual habits or wives' tales or stories of the species told by native people. It's these details that make this volume (and others by Laura C. Martin) unique. It's not a guidebook per se: rather, it's a supplement to standard bird books; one that will tell you what the others won't. Trail guides and naturalists who like to personalize their tours will find this work a valuable addition to their collections.
