My son and I are very lucky because we have almost all of the Folkmanis puppet collection. They are all great, and we really like Penguin. We make up stories or we do stories from my son's library or school books. The kids love to put on shows for us. I put up one of those security cameras with the monitor so they can see themseves and they have a ball. Of course I had to get a puppet house/stage that they use to give shows or even play other games in. It is fun and imaginative for parents and kids.These puppets are VERY well made also. And they are plush and soft, just like stuffed animals, in fact, you have to look hard to find the puppet pocket! Highly recommended for LOTS of fun! I advise getting a few so they can make up characters that can interact.

My 6-year-old daughter loved the movie and now enjoys playing with the penguin and the baby penguin (also by Folkmanis). She plays with her puppets and plush toys more than any of her other toys or games. She just LOVES making them talk and coming up with new adventures for them!

Nice Penguin ! Only problem it is a bit difficult for my five year old nephew to manuver and myself for that matter..But it looks good and the service was fantastic.

This Emperor Penguin Puppet is a real hit with my 5 year old. We almost never use it as a puppet but rather as a plush toy/pal. This penguin looks round and pregnant, but to my kid, this penguin is a perfect friend. He has pretty much outgrown all of his plush toys, but for some reason, this one has a place in his heart and in his imagination.

The Emperor Penguin from Folkmanis is fabulous! While on the large scale (13") it is an easy to use hand puppet by fitting hand into flippers and head it is well animated. We purchased this for an infant as they focus on black and white colors during early development. The penguin is well sewn plush fur fabric which does not shed; eyes are secured, and there are no other small parts. Beak is good quality faux leather. Puppet stands when not in use and is full bodied for holding and cuddling. We also purchased the baby penguin (not the mini) and love the size of that as well. We had several Folkmanis puppets for our children and are happy to see they continue to be of high quality and very detailed hand puppets.

Bought this puppet as a companion to the baby emperor penguin and the book, The Emperor's Egg. This puppet is designed for larger hands so it's not a good puppet for a younger child but is a great puppet to use when reading any penguin book (Cuddly Dudley, Tacky). It is also very soft and cuddly to snuggle with when not being used as a puppet.

I don't really own it yet but I'm going in a few weeks. Very nice toy. Glad I ordered it.

Difficult to assess what kids make of it but yes, these things probably add to bringing nature, of which the kids themselves are part, closer to them. They also perpetuate the myth that wild animals are nice and cuddly. I would take issue with the editorial review which calls the penguin an "eye-catching Arctic artifact" - penguins would surely be eyecatchers in the Arctic, as they are Antarctic (or at least souther hemisphere) creatures. Not much educational value has rubbed off on the editor.... sorry!
