5.0 out of 5 stars a MUST see movie!
I have enjoyed this movie since it came out at the movies. I love this movie and everyone that I have introduced the movie to have come back and said they laughed so hard they almost wet their pants. It really is that good. It's funny, touching, and full of irony. My fondest wish is that it comes out on DVD as soon as possible. I just can't say enough about this movie...

5.0 out of 5 stars a MUST see movie!, November 13, 2005
This review is from: Folks [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have enjoyed this movie since it came out at the movies. I love this movie and everyone that I have introduced the movie to have come back and said they laughed so hard they almost wet their pants. It really is that good. It's funny, touching, and full of irony. My fondest wish is that it comes out on DVD as soon as possible. I just can't say enough about this movie. It's not for kids under the age of15 or so, but for adults that have aged parents or grandparents you will connect right away and have a great time doing so. Prepare by going to the restroom before you start the movie and have some tissues handy for those touching moments. Poor Tom goes through the mill in this movie and does a great job acting as does all the actors. Don Amanche is sooo funny in this. I loved him in his early films where he was young, dashing and a very fine actor, and I love him in this. Take my word for it. You won't be at all disappointed for having spent the time to watch this under rated, under publicized movie. ENJOY!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Classic, June 25, 2004
This review is from: Folks [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a real classic movie. Don Ameche and Tom Selleck did a supurb job. As any movie it has its slow spots but keeps you laughing. Ive watched this flick a dozen times already and still laugh just as hard and times even harder. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who's looking for a warm comedy with lots of laughs. Now if it would only come out on DVD.

Tom Selleck is great at being hurt constantly, the humor is there at all times. His doorman does an oustanding job in red underwear. Pick this one up!

5.0 out of 5 stars A funny family film!, March 23, 2005

Oh,my goodness! Tom Selleck's longtime moustache is missing! But,what the hell? He looked handsome without it as he did with it. Selleck is Jon Aldrich,a Chicago stockbroker with a wife and two young children. Jon has parents(Anne Jackson and the late Don Ameche) in a Florida nursing home who are residentially taken into the Aldrich household by Jon. Jon's dad suffers from Alzheimer's and constantly craves McDonald's food. The dad once owned and operated a shoe store which was later taken over and sold by Jon. The sale occured as a result of the neighborhood change. The dad also follows Jon almost everywhere Jon goes and the dad is unknowingly wandering around town despite the dangerous situations. Jon's divorced sister Arlene(Christine Ebersole) has two obnoxious pre-teen sons who of course, behave obnoxiously when they and their mother show up at the Aldriches' home. Arlene becomes romantically involved with one of the Aldriches' neighbors(the late Robert Pastorelli). One funny scene was where Jon injured one of his testicles in an accident. It is surgically removed, which led to Jon exclaiming in his hospital bed,"I only have one nut!". A very funny family film! Ameche died at age 85 in 1993 and Pastorelli, late of the CBS sitcom "Murphy Brown", committed suicide last year. Selleck, without a moustache is also seen in 1997's IN & OUT and the 2000 TV movie RUNNING MATES.

5.0 out of 5 stars Selleck at his best !!!, November 9, 2006
This review is from: Folks! (DVD)
I always loved Tom Selleck as Magnum PI, but he definitely has a comic streak in him. Every character in this movie just added to it being a lot of fun to watch. The veteran actor Don Ameche, was in top form for this one. The supporting actors blended different kinds of humor together to put this movie on the top of the list of films to watch if you want a good laugh. Highly recommended for a good evening of laughing.
