5.0 out of 5 stars Really an excellent book, December 1, 2006
This review is from: The Folksinger's Guide to Classical Guitar (Paperback)
If you would like to learn a little finger picking and a bit about reading music, try this book. It shows you how to read tablature, a type of musical notation that is much easier for guitar, instead of the standard notation commonly used for instruments such as the piano. The songs are written in both tablature and standard notation, so you can see how the two compare to each other.

With no teacher, I used this book to learn to play basic classical tunes on the guitar and made rapid progress. I did already know how to read standard music and play the piano, but the book is probably easy enough for someone who knows little or nothing about reading music. By the time you work through to the end, you'll be playing quite a few beautiful Spanish songs and other very pretty tunes.

The book is 112 pages long and includes about 45 songs, complete with clear instructions, diagrams, and exercises you can do to practice the techniques. Highly recommended.

I picked up this book probably 30 years ago and it is the primary reason I'm still playing and enjoying the guitar. This is a great introduction to beginner guitarists and a good lead into finger picking.
