Folksong Fun,
By Lisa L. Cotts (Norfolk, VA USA) - See all my reviews

This selection is loaded with toe-tapping fun! The lyrics are easy to understand and learn. Our children, ages five and four, love to listen to it while we are riding in the car. When they are at home listening, they are laughing, dancing whirlwinds. This is a wonderful selection as an alternative to contemporary music, often with adult centered content.

Our #1 favorite CD. We (parents and a 2 and 4 year old) sing and dance while it is playing and hum the tunes when it isn't. The musicianship is great as is the thoughtful selection of songs. ENJOY!

This is a collection of fun, upbeat songs. They have a nice beat and are easy to learn and sing along with. My children, ages 2 and 4 have enjoyed every minute of this CD. We even play it for them at night in their room. It is not go to sleep type music, but they will lay still and listen to it and that works for us!Great Music. Well worth the money. Enjoy.

I can't understand the reviews that say "Fun!" and "Toe Tapper!" This CD is anything but. The songs are probably fine on their own but the delivery is entirely glum. Does this guy not have kids? Did he make this CD at gunpoint? There is no joy--even when the lyrics are fun and happy there is just not a smile in his voice. Something about the timbre of his voice and the seemingly-too-slow delivery saps all the fun out of it to the point that a couple songs are quite morose. Even the children singing in some of the backgrounds seem half asleep. Aiken Drum actually sounds like a dirge!
We can only tolerate about the first 4-6 songs, the best of those being Six Little Ducks, and Paw Paw Patch. I was very, very disappointed although I will say that as soon as the duck song is over my daughter asks for it again so at least we only have to listen to that song. $15.99 is a lot of money for one song. Save yourself and just buy the single. |
