It would be easy to dismiss this album as newage mush, but it's far from that. Yes, the melodies are beautiful, but you know, that's OK with me. Throughout the hsitory of music, the great masters have been able to write a pretty tune when the moment called for it. Sometimes music wants to dress up a bit and be lovely, and she chose Garbarek, Gismonti and Haden as her vehicles on this occasion. These are three world class players who make music with integrity, depth and passion. There's good chemistry between the steely Norwegian saxophone master Garbarek, the earthy tones of American bassist Haden, and the emotionally charged, nuanced imagination of Brazilian guitar virtuoso Gismonti. This is not the most challenging work of any of these three musicians, but neither is it mindless ear candy. Relax and enjoy.

i have downloaded all this album from one of the share-ware programs on the net... and still i felt the urge of getting the original on my shelve together with the rest of garbarek's albums. people that dislike lonely music should disregard this album in their own selection but otherwise , beleive me this is an album to have. fantastic to also aquire another garbarek/haden/gismonti album.... magico.

Initially you might think this is New Age music, you'd be very wrong. Jan Garbarek's saxophone playing is haunting, melodic, and also relaxing. And he's been playing this type of music since at least the mid 70s, when I first encountered him on albums such as Places and Visible World. Charlie Haden brings his jazz influence to these tracks, with his bass filling in the sound laid down by Garbarek. Finally Egberto Gismonti's evocative guitar playing is bold but not jarring.

I can work while listening to this, and it's also worth really listening to without distractions. A timeless album.
