5.0 out of 5 stars Best CD since Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness!
At first, I was sceptical, but Zamfir has made me a believer. The fact that one man can make such sweet music upon my ears. Zamfir is going to be the official Christmas/Y2K music in my house this year, and hearing it on the subs in my car is nothing short of amazing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not your typical, mellow Zamphir
If you're looking for the easy, romantic music that Zamphir is known for then you should avoid this CD. This contains some of the most nerve-wracking, jittery music I have ever heard - guaranteed to set your teeth on edge. If you're looking for something that will give you the sensation you've just consumed a full pot of espresso or a case of Jolt cola then this would be...

The review by the reviewer in SC helped me make the decision to get this album. He didn't like it because it wasn't soft and gentle enough. I wish I could've traded my Damian Draghici "...Virtuoso" album with him. He would like that. This album is wonderful if you want the real feel.
Track #14 [the Nightengale] is 10 minutes long. The first 7 minutes are Zamfir on panpipe tugging at your emotions. Leading you into a haunting, melancholic yearning, and then shifting you to a high pitch of joy and excitement! Then after 7 minutes takes off into a faced paced dance mode that makes your feelings soar! Everything on this album is beautiful! And it's at a bargain price.
Can anyone give me any more titles of CDs that have music like this one?

Laserlight! What did I spend for this - $3.99? This is the kind of music that I used to hear daily, beamed out from Radio Bucharest. Not quite Folk Music, but an amazing simulation. A kind of "National Music", where Folk elements were lightly scrubbed, cleaned up, tuned up (literally). And don't forget the ridiculous, by - the - clock, stop-on-a-dime virtuosity! Georghe Zamfir certainly deserved his fame as a Panpipe Turbo - Virtuoso. Though this CD presents him how I like him, without the simpering vibrato. But he's not all that's happening here: some of the compositions are so haunting. My favorite is and has always been Track 15, the less - than - 2 minute long Hora ca la Caval. That strutting, ragtime-y Cimbalon, the inexorable Bass line. Ah, Romania! Back in the day...

The soundtrack to the Ceausescu era - nationalism, comedy, foreboding...Nostalgic? You bet - but I didn't live there.

Otherwise, get one his other albums. I give it one star because it was cheap enough so I didn't mind shelving it after just one play.
