Follies and fun,
By John Partin (St. Louis, MO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Follies of a Navy Chaplain (Paperback)
I found this book to be very entertaining. Written in short chapters that outline different subjects, it makes for an easy and delightful read. It's fresh each time you pick it up. Irish humor and turmoil abound in Father Maguire's stories, and become vivid to the reader. His memory of the fight with his brother about what constituted "half-way to carry the milk bucket" was enchanting, as were most of his written memories. I recommend this book highly. It is a jovial, relaxing, honest book.

Some of the things that happened to Father Maguire while still in Ireland make for priceless stories in his book. I found the piece regarding his brother fighting with him over how far they had to carry the milk particularly delightful. His military experiences are varied and interesting. This is especially a good read for people "on-the-go", since it can be read by chapters without missing a beat. I have highly recommended this book to others. |
