Bounding along the Buckeye Trail,
By
This review is from: Follow the Blue Blazes: A Guide To Hiking Ohio's Buckeye Trail (Ohio Bicentennial) (Paperback)
Mr. Pond's work consists of dayhikes (mostly loops) that utilize portions of the Buckeye Trail or are hikes located near the BT. There are 33 hikes listed within 11 chapters, covering the varions sections of Ohio that the BT runs through. Each hike is detailed with maps and the author offers tidbits of historical or natural highlights along the way. Most hikes are in the 4-6 mile range, although there are a few longer ones as well for the more serious dayhiker. If you are wanting to discover Ohio with your feet, this is the book to start with.

This review is from: Follow the Blue Blazes: A Guide To Hiking Ohio's Buckeye Trail (Ohio Bicentennial) (Paperback)
When I purchased this book, as a native Buckeye (sadly, only until age 12!) contemplating a thru-hike, I'd assumed that it would cover the entire route on a day-to-day basis, but instead, it includes little more than the highlights plus a few peripheral sites of interest. That's fine, and the portions of the trail included are all worthwhile and trip-inspiring, but for thru-hikers, it would be much more useful to include information on potential campsites and other nearby services in the 'wilds' of far-flung rural Ohio counties - especially along the many secondary and farm roads that make up much of the Buckeye Trail. In short, the book is very good, but there's still scope for more thorough coverage.
