Most of us aren't aware that Crispian St. Peters was part of the musical British Invasion of the 60's. But this forgotten star is fondly remembered with this single cd collection that features all his U.S. chart singles: 1966's "The Pied Piper" and "Changes" and 1967's Top 40 version of We Five's "You Were On My Mind." This is the original St. Peters "Follow Me" album with 6 bonus cuts and informative liner notes. Ya like 60's pop? Are you a fan of British Invasion music like Herman's Hermits, Freddie & The Dreamers and Peter & Gordon? Then you'll enjoy this immensely and it'll be a great addition to your collection!

An Excellent Example of the Greatest Music Left Forgotten,
By A Customer
This review is from: Follow Me (Audio CD)
Crispian St. Peters once said that he sang better than Elvis, and whether or not this is true, he certainly is strong compitition as far as his voice goes. He is a very talented singer, and as one who was certainly not around in the 1960's to enjoy then some of the top British musicians to enter this country, I find Crispian St. Peters in a very different category. He is not like the Rock'n'Roll stars (Hermans Hermits, Gerry and the Pacemakers etc.). Instead, he is more of a light pop singer. His voice is smooth and seems to flow easily with harmonic control. Each song on this CD is a song which shows talent. The very first song, "Your Love Has Gone" shows right off of the bat the talent that this artist has. His smooth voice is heard best in the song "You Were On My Mind". And yet, though some the songs on this CD have the smooth pop sound most comparable to some of the easy listening singers of decades later, there are songs such as "When We Meet" and "Goodbye To You", and the bonus track "Almost Persuaded" that show yet a more American, more Country sort of beat, which puts him in direct competition with some of the more well-known singers of the era. Clearly, Crispian St. Peters should be much more well known in the music world. He is unfortunatley one of those talented singers who will die unknown. I often imagine the pleasant surprise of people such as myself, who like to discover music of days ago, and pick this one up at random. Just as myself, I am sure anyone who picks up this Crispian St. Peters CD will be greatly pleased by the wonderful tracks and then baffled how he passed through the hands of millions of people only to be forgotten.

I have to say that this CD is the best! I have been searching for a particular song "Sweet Dawn My True Love" which was the flip side of Pied Piper. Tried Napster (when it was still file sharing) and AOL music. None of them had it. When I saw this CD with it on there I was thrilled. After listening to the whole CD I found so many other great songs such as "Willingly" "You Were On My Mind". Guess he was ahead of his time. He reminds me a little of Elvis Presley. I would recommend this CD to anyone especially those of us who are Cripsian St. Peters Fans!

Years ago I had "The Pied Piper" album on vinyl, which represent the first 14 songs on this cd. I had always liked all of the songs on the album, and I am pleased to have the album on cd.

Good enough, I guess. I got this for the hit "Pied Piper."
The rest is okay. He has a nice voice. Though there is a nice version of "You Were on My Mind."

I bought this CD because`I wanted the original version of "The Pied Piper". If you are not a collector of 60's one-hit pop gems, then don't bother with this.

I'll be perfectly honest, I never knew other songs by Crispian St. Peter were out there. I've only heard The Pied Piper, a song that I've always enjoyed. I found this CD, and listened to samples of the songs. I was impressed. This is a great additon to my CD collection. I enjoy every track on this one. As a "Baby Boomer" I enjoy the oldies, and I find Crispian St. Peter has a smooth delivery on his songs. I find it to be just plain enjoyable to listen to. Highly recommended!

Only oldies radio retains an example of the worthy work of Crispian St. Peter's. "Pied Piper," his one-hit wonder*, has to be one of the best foot-tapping hits of the sixties. Unfortunately, nothing on his collection is nearly as good as this troubadour love song. This is too bad, for this CD showcases a fine singing voice with a wide range of styles and delivery. Ably, St. Peter's easily evokes Roy Orbison, Tommy Roe, and, even Elvis, throughout the mix. The songs cover rockabilly, folk, country, and, progressive (for then) rock. The quality is also wide, however. Sometimes the session men are skillful; at other times amateurish. Overall, the sound isn't as expansive as on his great hit. The lyric ability also has a wide spectrum: It is often either straightforward or substandard. In many ways this selection is dated. To be fair to Crispian St. Peter's, even as a period piece, his work should at least be revived like Patsy Cline. Both are able crooners who excel at lonely hearts' love songs. There are enough corny, yet able heart-rending songs from both artists. For those who don't mind dated songs from the sixties, this collection is as varied as it gets.
*or two, if you count his native England. "Always on My Mind," no relation to the megahit Elvis and Willie Nelson, was his first hit in the UK. |
