About the Author

Jan Hettinga lives in Snohomish Washington a community near Seattle. He is Sr. Pastor Emeritus at Northshore Baptist Church where he served as Sr. Pastor from 1979 to 2008.

During his years of ministry at Northshore he led the church into a church planting movement. The Northshore church planting network or Northshore Network began in 1996 and Dr. Hettinga continues to lead it today. Fourteen new churches have been started with several more about to launch.

The focus of Jan’s teaching is the life-transforming power of the Kingdom Gospel of Jesus. Without surrender to the leadership of Jesus there can be no heart level change. Bowing and believing also known as repentance and faith are the two essential sides of salvation. Jan speaks and trains leaders nationally and internationally on transformation and multiplication related topics.

In 2005 Jan earned his Doctor of Ministry Degree in Transformational Leadership at Bakke Graduate University in Seattle. He teaches Kingdom Leadership and Church Multiplication wherever and whenever God opens the doors.

The Kingdom message is the subject of Jan’s book Follow Me: Experience the Loving Leadership of Jesus {NavPress 1996} of which 33 000 have copies sold. He is working on several new writing projects at present. The Power of Choice is a pamphlet also written by Jan which explains the gospel Jesus and His first followers proclaimed.

Jan and his wife Scharme have three married children and 10 grandchildren. They enjoy spending time with family and friends reading walking and exploring the world.

Be sure to pick up a pencil or pen along with this book. Read slowly. Study. Underline. The importance of what is being said in "Follow Me" cannot be overstated. I am an avid reader and next to the Bible, I have returned to this book more than any other, and I continue to find new truths to challenge me. How I wish every church in America would teach the concepts in Jan Hettinga's book. Too much of the body of Christ is missing the essence of the gospel, with tragic consequences. In this book is the secret to the real life-changing, transforming message of Jesus. Is your walk with Christ a disappointment? Do you struggle to find the peace, power and joy you thought would be part of the Christian life? This book is especially for you!

I have been a pastor for 11 years and I have yet to run across a book that better explains the gospel than Follow Me. In a day when too many Americans "pray the prayer" and put their life in cruise control, Hettinga offers in a very readable, profound, yet clear-cut manner what being a Christ-follower truly means. His chapters are short, to-the-point and well illustrated. He uses a lot of little pictures and charts to drive home his points. I used this book in my men's small group this past year (2004) and it revolutionized several of the guys in terms of life and purpose. All of the guys confessed to not being able to put it down, including the self-described "non-readers". Our group is a mix between seasoned Christians, brand-new believers and one seeker and they all found this to be a book that was must-reading!!
