Product Description

Hidden within each of us is a superstar waiting to come alive. Often we don t find that superstar because we give up too easily or think that superstars have special talents we lack. Follow the Yellow Brick Road shows us that we all have the potential to be superstars in what we love to do. The secret lies in knowing how to bring our superstar to life. This book is based on Dr. White s research into how over 60 ordinary people became superstars. It began by asking how people like Oprah, Richard Branson, Sam Walton, and Lance Armstrong became superstars? Is there a common path that superstars follow? What Dr. White discovered is that superstars follow the same Yellow Brick Road as Dorothy and her companions in their triumphant journey through Oz. They don t start out as exceptionally talented or beautiful people. They often doubt whether they have the brains, heart and courage to succeed, but they climb to the top because they know the way and the right steps to take to reach their goals. Follow the Yellow Brick Road shows you the way. It contains the nine-step road map followed by superstars and provides you with the tools to create your own personal success cycle. It shows you how to identify what makes you special, chart your course, navigate organizational roadblocks and build the types of relationships that you need to excel. In addition, it teaches you the psychological mind-sets that successful people use. You will learn how to manage your emotions, perform at your peak when it counts most, overcome failure, and generate the positive mental energy that sustains all superstars. Each step in the road map is illustrated with examples from the lives of the over 60 superstars in the book. Through these examples you will learn valuable strategies and techniques that superstars use. By applying them to your own life and following the book s road map, you can bring your inner superstar to life and achieve more than you ever dreamed possible. What reviewers are saying about the book: I ve been reading books on successful people to glean their best practices and apply them to me. Wow! Follow the Yellow Brick Road does this all, along with the structure for a successful career path. Very different than any other book out there. Stuart Lecky, COO, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Information Technology Division. Dr. White has written a simple, wise, entertaining, well-researched and profoundly practical book on how to develop the inner strengths that make people successful. But the most poignant part is that Dr. White reminds us of the simple things we need to remember in order to be happy and remain true to ourselves on the Yellow Brick Road of life. David P. Snyder, author of How to Hire a Champion. A riveting and fascinating read. Dr. Thomas Gutheil, Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring reading for anybody who wants to know how to become a superstar, or help others to do so, June 14, 2008
I loved reading Myra White's book! "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" is full of exceptional suggestions on how to recognize your strengths and change your behavior in order to achieve what you really care about. The stories that Dr. White tells about the several superstars who inspired her book are so enjoyable that I couldn't stop reading. I recommend this book to anybody, and especially to educators, HR managers, and people who want to start their own company.

5.0 out of 5 stars Follow the Yellow Brick Road - Entertaining and Enlightening, July 15, 2008
By Liz Hughes (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
Follow the Yellow Brick Road is first a fun read, full of interesting stories about people, famous and not as famous, who have found the way to bring success and meaning into their lives. But while you are reading about these people you are learning how you too can be successful! It is a thoroughly researched book but does not read like a dry academic text. The writing is great - full of color and life. The road map provided in this book is paved with practical, do-able steps that anyone can achieve. Reading the book made me want to go dancing down my own yellow brick road! I couldn't wait to get started!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" by Dr White, June 21, 2008
"Follow the Yellow Brick Road" is the best career development book I've ever read. It is not only very insightful and well researched, but it is fun, straight to the point, and easy to read. Two characteristics make this book unique. First of all, it provides a clear road map instead of loose tips that readers never know in what order to follow. Secondly, instead of using random examples with fictional characters to portray each topic, Dr White uses fascinating facts from the lives of people that have become superstars in fields such as sports, business and entertainment.
I absolutely recommend this book, you will not regret it.
