I'm tired of empty-headed theorists and wanna-be gangsta preachers. I'm bored with dissenters and bemoaners, both of whom are just slightly worse than the upstarts and the rainbow-belted dreamers. Instead, I want a book written by someone who knows what they're talking about, who knows how it works in real life, and is critical enough to point out their own flops, failures, foibles, and shortcomings.

A book like this one, by the single-most creative pastor in Christian ministry today: John Voelz.

John anchors his biting cleverness in practical advice, buckets of personal experimentation, and sound biblical wisdom. He's not a dreamer - he's actually worked social media into his ministry in hundreds of ways; neither is he an upstart - he's been in ministry for over twenty years; and he's not a dissenter either - he loves his church and he loves his people.

This isn't a book about how to be cool, or about all the ways in which the church is failing. No - this is a book about how to love people and use every available means to demonstrate that love in real life.

There's no other book like it on the market today. Not one.

More often than not, the people who are changing the world don't have time to write about it. However, when anyone who is doing something truly unique is able to put words to their story, we are wise to pay attention. This book is one of those, "pay attention" books. John is not a theorist on creativity, social media, or ministry. He is deep in the trenches - loving people, and creatively lifting Jesus high. In fifteen plus years of professional ministry, I have never met a more creative person than John Voelz.

So as you read this book, recognize what a gift it is. One of the most creative pastors in America is poking his head out of the trenches long enough share his experience with you. This book will do more than give you a crash course on social media in the church. This book will inspire you to dream, to create, and to use everything at your disposal to lift Jesus high in this world.

Voelz helpfully makes the case that social media is a gift given by God to help us connect with others In positive (albeit non-traditional) ways. Along the way, he strikes a good balance on the topic of social media, providing helpful on how to steer the course between outright addiction, online bible bashing, outright rejection etc. excellent reading for any Christian looking to integrate their faith with their online presence, and essential for those trying to figure out digital ministry and community.
