3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, a little forgettable
Made me feel good while reading it; forgot about it shortly thereafter. It didn't stick with me as much as others did. (For example, having read other books once I can still recall impressive points and remember how I felt when I read them; this book I can't recall anything specific even after a few short months)
Overall, entertaining but "[literary] wallpaper"...

I have just finished reading a copy of this book, and to sum everything up I can simply say that it gives me new insights and wisdom into various aspects of my life. In a few simple and effective sentences, Mr. Mathews sums up the various lessons we need to know in life. He brings in case studies that are easily understood, and the book is generously illustrated with cartoons. Overall, I can simply and safely say that this book is of the highest calibre, with important life-lessons all should learn. Its concepts are effective without making it boring and monotonous. An asset to the existing treasure trove of self-improvement books.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Follow your heart", January 30, 2000
This review is from: Follow Your Heart: Finding Purpose in Your Life and Work (Paperback)
This is another jewel from A. Matthews. Just as in his earlier book "Being Happy" he once again pins down in incredibly simple and humorous form the way life works, and how we can make it work for us.

What I find most amazing and impressive is how Matthews can put so much wisdom and insight into a few sentences. This is a thin book, with lots of his cartoons to make it look almost like a children's book. And yet, if you were to weigh the value for day-to-day life you gain from reading it, it would have to weigh tons. Profound insights that can change your whole perspective on life. And again, so simple. Your heart will feel lighter. A great gift even for those who normally shy away from reading!

This review is from: Follow Your Heart: Finding Purpose in Your Life and Work (Paperback)
Follow Your Heart has definitely changed my attitude towards life. It provides practical and logical advices on how to achieve more peace of mind. It helps me understand more about the human nature, and that in effect improves my relationship with other people. It is the kind of book that can serve as a guideline for everyday life on how to become a happier person.

5.0 out of 5 stars Andrew Matthews does it again!, December 11, 1998
This review is from: Follow Your Heart: Finding Purpose in Your Life and Work (Paperback)
I got a much appreciated early holiday gift this year... an advance copy of "Follow Your Heart" by Andrew Matthews before it was released in the USA. In short: as soon as this book is available, buy it! Mr. Matthews's humor, wit, and way of "telling it like it is" shines through once again. For fans of "Being Happy", he doesn't dissapoint. For readers not familar with his previous work, you will find simple fulfullment in your life and work (as the subtitle states) just by taking the time to read and savor his gems of wisdom. On a personal note, "Follow Your Heart" came to me just as I was questioning a MAJOR change in my life and career. It helped me sort out my fears and choose the path I truly wanted to take in life. What I was reading gave me practical advice I applied to my own life.. and for the first time in a long time, things made sense. I hope Mr. Matthew's book can reach as many people as possible and change their lives as it has mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Guide for life!, July 25, 2002
By
This review is from: Follow Your Heart: Finding Purpose in Your Life and Work (Paperback)
This book deals with alot about living life, how to succeed, have a peace of mind, and be happy. The format is fun, the concepts are easy to understand, and I would happily say that this book is the best of Andrew Mattews. If you are thinking about reading Being Happy as well, I will first mention that the concepts in these two books are similar, except I think this one is more organized, especially since the author became more skilled in writing and expresses himself better in this one. This review is written in my humble opinion, and anyone who does not agree with me, don't get all excited. If you are mad, maybe you should read the book again :-) jm

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Perspective on Life!, January 10, 2002
This review is from: Follow Your Heart: Finding Purpose in Your Life and Work (Paperback)
I have a collection of self help books that I find useless. But After being pretty miserable at my job lately, combined with the stress of returning to work in downtown Manhattan, I pulled this one off my shelf, and found this one filled with so many gems to really change my attitude - Starting with, "Whatever you are, you are not STUCK. You are a human being, not a tree."

This book makes you think, and really has simple ideas for changing your outlook, without being preachy. It validates your feelings, yet pushes you to figure out what you can do to change the things that make you unhappy. And helps you focus on what you have, rather than what you are missing.

My copy of this book is getting worn from all my friends who keep borrowing it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow! My purse become lighten............., December 26, 2003
I am a frugal reader (or you might call me stingy guy...........) I like to read the book in the book shop and not buy the book........
One day, I did my "window shopping" again in the Popular Book Shop (One of the most famous and biggest book shop in Malaysia). I was attracted by the cover of the book- <<Follow your heart>>.
Follow my heart?! Means I could do anything I like?!
Then I started to read the book. And this also became my weekly activity - read the book in Popular.
One month later, I finished read the book and I found that my purse become lighten.........Because I also decided to buy the book. It is my "book of the year". This book is worth to read and also worth to collect. It is easy to digest and widen our thought and vision.
Here I would like to say thanks to Andrew Matthews for writing a wonderful and attracted book.

5.0 out of 5 stars It focuses mainly on our working activities, but keeps a rounded view of life, February 13, 2006
By
This review is from: Follow Your Heart: Finding Purpose in Your Life and Work (Paperback)
This book resembles pretty much a former book of this author, Andrew Matthews (AM). They go against conventional science and AM recognizes it. These were the basic ideas in his first book (Being happy):

-You are treated as you treat yourself and you get you expect from life.
-Your thoughts become real; they even attract things, persons or events. You are what you think.
-Whenever you become truly committed to some cause the universe automatically helps you and opens doors to allow you succeed.

In this book h went deeper into the 2nd point, focused on our job lives (I guess that's why there are many reviews from very hard-working nations) and gave new observations about our daily mistakes, like fixing problems when it's almost too late. He well asks (rephrasing) "when do go on diet? When we're too fat!", "when do we change our ways in life or our business? When the competition has already wiped us out" Thus, AM once again stressed the importance of own responsibility, something badly needed today when so many people feel helpless and even sue for petty details.

Besides new observations of common life, AM again gives good new simple advices for common problems for countless persons. A typical problem is how to choose a career or a job activity. Very simple try one after another activity until you find something you like. Many of you, readers, will regard this advice as too simple or stupid, yet this is like rocket science for many people of all ages. Besides, AM does a great good in cheering his readers to try new things. Go ahead and read his books!
