More About the Author

A teacher and author, Bob Sorge has been walking in the crucible of a sustained personal trial for 21 years. Through the fire, God has burned into his soul a passionate message of God's ways and how He walks us through the darkness to the highest heights of grace. Before the trial, Bob wrote the book, EXPLORING WORSHIP (and its accompanying WORKBOOK), which has received international acclaim as a primer for worship ministries. During this 20-year trial, an additional 18 books have emerged from the intensity of the journey. Several of Bob's books address issues of suffering and deliverance (such as IN HIS FACE, THE FIRE OF DELAYED ANSWERS, PAIN PERPLEXITY & PROMOTION, and UNRELENTING PRAYER). Some of his books address issues he has had to confront in his own soul (such as ENVY, DEALING WITH THE REJECTION AND PRAISE OF MAN, and LOYALTY), while other books are for worship ministries and leaders (such as FOLLOWING THE RIVER, IT'S NOT BUSINESS IT'S PERSONAL, GLORY, and OPENED FROM THE INSIDE). His best-selling book is SECRETS OF THE SECRET PLACE (see the curriculum that is available along with the accompanying DVD series), and his latest release (winter 2012) is BETWEEN THE LINES: GOD IS WRITING A STORY WITH YOUR LIFE. Having served as a senior pastor for thirteen years, Bob is now traveling domestically and abroad to bring his message of hope to the body of Christ. Bob and his wife, Marci, live in Kansas City, Missouri with their three children and six grandchildren.

This is an incredible book! Bob Sorge has articulated what is on the heart of many lovesick worshipers of God. People who lead worship, and not just worship pastors, need to get a hold of the concepts that he presents. This isn't a manual on how to "do" worship, it is a primer on how to "be" worship in a corporate setting. I've been to the place of worship he describes a few times, we've hit it in our congregation a few times, but what the author describes would take us from just wishing it would happen again someday, to the expectant hope that we could demonstrate and experience this level of worship consistently in our corporate gatherings. In the span of one paragraph I found myself deep in the Spirit, then crying, then laughing, then yearning for more! Don't miss this one.

Our worship team read this book and loved it! Sorge's vision for corporate worship pushed us to strive for a deeper level within our own congregation. Chapters are short, but thought provoking. Topics include: river vs songlists, preparation and spontaneity, and worship wars. Highly recommended--this is one book you want to own! Another bonus--it's also available in spanish.

This is the best book I have read regrding the goal of our worship as the body of saints come together to worship God. Bob Sorge goes into detail about the certain hindrences worship leaders, and worship teams face as they worship. Bob also gives practical advice at overcoming those hindernances...This book helps in how to find the River of God as we come together to worship.

The best part about this book is how Mr. Sorge is able to allow his heart to come through the pages. I have seldom seen such a pure heart that was so focused on the reality that the worship experience is not on the shoulders of the "performers" but on the congregation as a whole. It was interesting how he was able to bring some clarity to the spontaneous vs. preparation perspectives.

I have clearly rated this, however, as a three-star. The reason for this is lack of biblical evidence and support for many of the ideas that he has. While I completely agree with his stance, and I can even point to scripture that supports his views, many of the scripture passages (especially early in the book) seem to be taken out of context and molded into an alternative idea for the book's purpose. I was disappointed with this.

If you are a theologian or worship leader looking for some solid, biblical study material to open up the doors of discovery within the Text, you might want to use this text as supplemental. If, however, you want a very encouraging, heart-felt, and blunt honest opinion on how God's people ought to look at worship, this book is for you. I will, no doubt, recommend this book to a friend.

This was an amazing book. As a worship leader, I was encouraged and convicted. The author makes great points about the need for the whole congregation to be involved in worship. His example of a tapestry being woven together was a beautiful representation of what worship could be. I feel this book is a must read for anyone e who is passionate about Jesus and wants to go deeper into worshiping Him.

If you want to get out of the "2-fast-3-slow, and a hymn-&-a-hearse" way of "doing worship" at your place of worship, then this is the book for you. It explains the who, what, where and why of worship, and how to get closer to God through it. If you are open to some changes, you won't be disappointed.
