Covers not only ingredients but what kind of fondue pot,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fondue (Paperback)
Almost a hundred fondue recipes go far beyond the usual melted cheese/bread mixture, providing recipes for everything from vegetable and meat fondues to desserts. From a sweet/hot tomato-based dipping sauce for meats and vegetables to oil-based fondues, Fondue covers not only ingredients but what kind of fondue pot is appropriate for some of the dishes.

Great recipes,

This is a wonderful Fondue recipe book, as well as an instructional book for for novice Fonduers. In the opening chapters you get a description of Fondue utensils as well as a lesson on how to properly prepare your Fondue ingredients, this can be of utmost importance, especially when using meants. Descibed in great detail are the various cheeses one will use in making Fondue. Most of the recipes are very easy to follow, you even get pointers on what typeof alcohol is best served with your Fondue of the moment, if you are inclined to drink alcohol this canbe helpful. Highly recommend.

Absolute must!!,

I bought this gift for a friend of mine for her birthday and have decided to keep the book and buy another one for her. This is a wonderful, descriptive book. It's filled with tips and pictures. I'm the type of person that wants to see what something looks like and every page has at least one picture. It tells you what type of pots are good for what, gives you tips if you are using oil, broth, sauces, ... I think this is a wonderful book. I don't think you will be disappointed with this purchase. We were going to give my friend our fondue kit, but after reading this book, we are now keeping it and will be getting her a new one. (Smile)

You can do what, now?,

This review is from: Fondue (Paperback)
I'd only ever had fondue in restaurants until i flipped through this book in the bookstore.
It seemed like a lot of effort, especially cleaning up afterwards. But i'd only ever really seen using the oil or the chocolate. We've now tried oil, broth, cheese, and chocolate. I tend towards broth because it's so much easier than i'd ever thought, and well worth the effort. I'd also never imagined cooking with wire baskets instead of forks. The strainers described in the book took a while to locate, but once again were worth it, being able to cook several small items together. The options of sauces and ingredients give you a lot of flexibility in what you serve. We've even had the kids use this book to plan meals on their designated nights to cook.

I bought this book for $1 used to give a friend. I am going to buy one for myself, now. I have several "fondue" books but this is the only one that contains full, lush, color photos for every single recipes.
The photo presentations are absolutely gorgous. There are a number of not-too-complicated presentation ideas for the dishes and the sides. Most can be done with any kind of fondue pot, even the electric variety. The assortment is wonderful. There's everything here from the standard cheese fondues to cream-type, Japanese-broth style, vegetarian varieties and several dessert fondues. Some good healthy eating options, as well. Overall, it is a beautiful book with a wonderful variety of ideas.

Not practical for a novice cook,
By Mrs.CLC (baltimore, md) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fondue (Paperback)
I ordered this book after reading a customer review stating it had lots of background information on selecting a fondue pot and preparing oils and broths, as well as lots of pictures. That's defintiely true. But MOST of these recipes require tools I don't have, or such strange cheeses or seasonings I have NO idea where I would find them. I was hoping to make something for my husband for Valentine's Day - there are about 3 recipes that look appealing ot me, after browsing the recipes for the past hour. Very frustrating.
