4.0 out of 5 stars NEAR-GREAT, except for too-fast cuts/editing on some songs
Overall, this is a near-great concert DVD - as the first reviewer said, "no frills" indeed (that's what i was also thinking while watching this)- there are no extras on this DVD but i'm not really complaining about that, as i seldom watch extras more than once anyway. 2.0 out of 5 stars I WAITED FOR THIS!
After a week and a half to finally get this from amazon I must say how disappointed in the sound on this was. Don't the people who produce this disc listen to the end result on how it sounds? Out of the more than 70 concert videos I own, this really is one of the worst! Having a really good system; dvds either sound great, or pretty bad, this was the latter! I actually...

4.0 out of 5 stars NEAR-GREAT, except for too-fast cuts/editing on some songs, November 23, 2008
This review is from: Foo Fighters: Live at Wembley Stadium (DVD)
Overall, this is a near-great concert DVD - as the first reviewer said, "no frills" indeed (that's what i was also thinking while watching this)- there are no extras on this DVD but i'm not really complaining about that, as i seldom watch extras more than once anyway. The band has great energy for such a large venue (and i've been fortunate to see them in clubs here in LA, and they brought the same energy to Wembley as they did to the Fonda here. I was also at the filming of the acoustic Skin and Bones concert, and this DVD blows that one away - THIS Wembley DVD is the show you want). My ONLY complaint with this DVD is that for many of the fast songs, there's too much MTV-style fast cutting, which almost induced motion sickness in me as it was simply too fast to follow on the large screen i watched it on. Which is really a shame, because the camera work itself is stellar, some of the best close-up and composition work i've seen in a live concert DVD. They got some really excellent angles/shots consistently....too bad they couldn't be content to just let the angles run for more than a second or two. Sound is really good; setlist is good but everyone will complain something's missing (for me, it was "Let it Die" and "Summer's End"). The real cherry on the cake here is the Page-and-Jones appearance for two Zeppelin classics - Dave and Taylor can't contain their enthusiasm and it looks like everyone had a blast. Overall, a great band, in excellent form, making for a fine DVD that is highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars No-frills Foo rock experience, November 19, 2008
This review is from: Foo Fighters: Live at Wembley Stadium (DVD)
For what it is, it's hard to complain. In terms of the setlist, you can never have too many songs of course, but off the top of my head there aren't too many glaring omissions for a two-hour set... the last single "Let It Die" perhaps, and some might prefer to see something from the band's first album. It would've been nice to see "Aurora," which was strangely absent from "Skin and Bones."

As with their other concert videos, "Everywhere But Home" and "Skin and Bones," there aren't any extras, and despite the double listing here, you only get video of the 18 songs in 2.0 or 5.1 (and no DTS). Oh, and like those other videos, Dave's penchant for F-bombs in between songs is also on display here.

The band is in tight, top form here (no bridge jams that drag on) and they look like they're having fun. Dave and Taylor in particular really seem to be in awe of the giant crowd that's gathered to see them. The renditions of the songs are about what you'd expect, although "My Hero" is done acoustic-style. Taylor stays at the drums for "Cold Day," but Dave takes over for "Rock and Roll" while Taylor sings. My only quibble is that "Everlong" is done with Dave solo at first, saving the main quartet for the very end. (Personally, I prefer the energy of the normal arrangement. With this one, it feels like once things get good, it's over.)

All in all, it's a great hard rock complement for the acoustic "Skin and Bones" DVD, and arguably more of a keeper than "Everywhere But Home." Yeah, it'd be good to at least see some behind-the-scenes stuff if anything, but if you can get it for a good price, it's nice to have some of their newer songs on DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let's Rock, December 13, 2008
This review is from: Foo Fighters: Live at Wembley Stadium (DVD)
If you are a true fan of rock and roll, you need to own this DVD. The band is in top form and having the time of their lives playing to a crowd of 86,000 in Wembley Stadium. Not only do you get hard hitting versions of 16 great Foo Fighters songs, you get Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones joining Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins for Rock And Roll and Ramble On. It's worth the price of the DVD just to see the look of pure joy on their faces getting to play with these rock legends in front of a massive audience. You can feel the excitement and appreciation from Dave and the band and the DVD captures all of it. If I could keep only one concert DVD in my collection, this would be the one I'd keep. Thank you Foo Fighters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Live Concert, But Not Great, June 24, 2011
This review is from: Foo Fighters: Live at Wembley Stadium (DVD)
I've been a fan of the Foo Fighters since the beginning and I still find the first three albums to be the best. So when I saw a live performance of them from the legendary wembley stadium I knew it had to be great. Well while the performance was good I fell Dave is trying a little hard with his expansions in terms of the new sounds he's added. I myself prefer the songs without the addition of violin, pianos, and keyboards. However seeing the legendary Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones perform two of Led Zeppelins best songs with the Foo Fighters made up for this/ Overall a good concert, that for met at least falls just short of being great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, February 24, 2011
This review is from: Foo Fighters: Live at Wembley Stadium (DVD)
I have to say, this is the best concert film I have ever seen. The sound is not altogether fantastic. I actually was initially disappointed with the beginning because of that. Images, however, are crystal clear, and before I knew it, I was caught up in the atmosphere. Dave Grohl is a performer! Himself and Taylor Hawkins steal the show until Mr. Jimmy Page makes his entrance in the encore, but man, Taylor holds his own singing Rock and Roll, and Dave is amazing playing drums on that song. By far, the best build up to a climax in a concert film to date! When Dave sings Best of You to finish it all off, I was in tears. The band, well, they appeared to have just played the best gig of their lives and you could see it in their faces. By the last song, the sound was perfect to me. Incredible experience. I will see them live before I die!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome show!!!, January 5, 2009
This review is from: Foo Fighters: Live at Wembley Stadium (DVD)
First of all, the video on this DVD is amazing, and produced to almost look like a movie. Top notch quality on that.
For the show, the energy in the band and the enormous croud never let down. Watching it gave me chills. Dave Grohl had some very funny moments talking inbetween songs (especially while introducing the band). The special appearance of Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones was just icing on the cake. Overall it was a very inspirational show, and shows that rock and roll is not dead!!!
This is a DVD you must get.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Show, Maybe Their Best, December 12, 2008

Well, what you have here might be the best show the Foo Fighters have played. The setting is grand in scale, 80,000 fans in Wembley I believe. Their show back here in the States does play better to an arena of the 20,000 range, but you have a great show right her on this DVD. Their set list is full of hits, since they have so many that they cannot always play them all. I could list a couple of songs I would have liked to had on here, but the same goes for their show I saw in Minneapolis. If they would have played the songs I wanted to hear, this would have needed about 25 tracks and not the 18 they play typically.

Overall the sound is a 8/10, the picture is a 9/10 and it's the best Foo Fighters concert DVD out there. A reviewer on here was complaining about the sound, but they must have either gotten a bad copy or they need to tweek their home system. It's 5.1 Dolby Digital and it's louder than you know what. So crank it up loud and enjoy roughly two hours of Foo Fighting!

Great show. If you enjoy the Foos, it's a must see...There's the standard Foo's songlist, then an awesome guest(s) appearance(s). Great performance...It's pretty obvious that Dave Grohl gets emotional in this show.
Highly recommended!
