Our 7 year old daughter loves to read this book.

This is a great little book for helping your young child understand his or her allergies without focusing solely on that part of their life.

If you have food-allergic kids or teach pre-K or lower elementary grades, I highly recommend having a copy of this in your library.

I was looking for a book that explained food allergies on a preschooler level to read to my daughter's pre-k class. I searched forever for a book that got to the point but did not scare the living daylights out of the children with shots and ambulance rides, etc. This book takes the reader through a day in the life of a child with food allergies. It is witty and explains to the child why they it is important to be a "food detective" to ensure the safety of the product. I found it helpful that it explains why children with food allergies have to have a special snack to be certain it is allergen free. Simply put it got to the point, explained that food allergies could make the person sick, and ended with everyone is unique and children with food allergies are not wierd just that they have to do other things to make sure they stay safe just like everyone else. I highly recommend this book for little ones!

This book could not be better for your food allergy child. I read it to my 3-year-old at least twice a day. It makes food allergies seem like just another part of life...not a huge deal. I LOVE that. I have been looking for a book like this for months and couldn't be more pleased with it.
It doesn't go on and on about how "special" you are b/c you have food allergies. Jack, the boy in the book has them, he deals with them.....he moves on with life. It's perfect!

I love this book! I ordered it because my oldest son (also named Jack), has multiple food allergies. I wanted something that I could read to him and his younger brother. I LOVE that this book simultaneously stresses that food allergies need to be taken seriously while also showing that it's not something that needs to rule (and ruin) every aspect of life. Fantastic book! I will be taking this to my son's preschool class to share with his classmates!

I really like this book and have come to like it more so as we have read many in this genre now. It is very low-key, told in the voice of a school boy as he goes through his day. It makes the allergies a part of life, rather than the main part, and although it mentions avoiding, getting sick, etc it is done in a casual and relaxed way. My kids like this one as well. This would be a great book to read to a classroom for some education and awareness, probably best in the pre-K/K/1/2 range.

I read this book to our second grade class because we have many students with severe food allergies. The kids loved the story and the characters and the children with allergies kept calling out, "Just like me!" Our students have been reading it during quiet time and connecting with the characters. The message is important: we do many things to keep ourselves safe, some of us have to also be careful what food we touch and eat to stay safe. It's important to remind adults as well who don't understand the severity of food allergies. Thanks for giving the world this book!

I really was searching for a book for my 2.5 year old to help teach him about his food allergies. Our library only had one about peanuts (which he's not allergic to) so I turned to Amazon. Despite some of the not so great reviews this book got, I gave it a try and I am SO glad I did. He actually picks it out just about every night for one of his bedtime stories... and when I ask him questions about it, like if he's allowed to share food, he can answer me correctly! I will probably be buying this for all of his classrooms until he's significantly older to help educate his teachers and classmates.

Simply amazing. We've been looking for a book to read to my child about his food allergies. There're others but this one was wonderful as the main character has multiple food allergies, not just peanuts (seems that's the allergy of choice for children's books). Our son has autism so doesn't understand his allergies at all, but I'm excited for this book. We also brought it in and showed it to his preschool teacher for next year, and she was amazed. They're ordering it for the entire district for preschool and elementary classrooms. It presents the allergies in a way that is helpful, and informative without being super scary. Perfect for kids.

From the reviews, I could tell this was a good book...but I was still surprised at just how PERFECT it is for helping explain allergies to little children. My 3-year-old has severe peanut and tree nut allergies (had an anaphylactic reaction to peanut butter the first time he ate it at 14 months--so scary)! We've been talking to him about his allergies, got him an allerbling allergy bracelet, and are always teaching him about his allergies and re-iterating it with him continually. This book thoroughly explains how to safely live with allergies, and also to be sensitive to others' allergies. It also helps kids with allergy to understand that they are not alone, even though we are all different and may have different allergies. We need to be sensitive to one another. I LOVE this book and so does my son!!!
