I will be taking this to my son's preschool class to share with his classmates!

The illustrations were cute and helpful; I'd recommend this book for educating young children (with or without allergies) about food allergies.

I was looking for a book that explained food allergies on a preschooler level to read to my daughter's pre-k class. I searched forever for a book that got to the point but did not scare the living daylights out of the children with shots and ambulance rides, etc. This book takes the reader through a day in the life of a child with food allergies. It is witty and explains to the child why they it is important to be a "food detective" to ensure the safety of the product. I found it helpful that it explains why children with food allergies have to have a special snack to be certain it is allergen free. Simply put it got to the point, explained that food allergies could make the person sick, and ended with everyone is unique and children with food allergies are not wierd just that they have to do other things to make sure they stay safe just like everyone else. I highly recommend this book for little ones!

This book could not be better for your food allergy child. I read it to my 3-year-old at least twice a day. It makes food allergies seem like just another part of life...not a huge deal. I LOVE that. I have been looking for a book like this for months and couldn't be more pleased with it.
It doesn't go on and on about how "special" you are b/c you have food allergies. Jack, the boy in the book has them, he deals with them.....he moves on with life. It's perfect!

I love this book! I ordered it because my oldest son (also named Jack), has multiple food allergies. I wanted something that I could read to him and his younger brother. I LOVE that this book simultaneously stresses that food allergies need to be taken seriously while also showing that it's not something that needs to rule (and ruin) every aspect of life. Fantastic book! I will be taking this to my son's preschool class to share with his classmates!

I really like this book and have come to like it more so as we have read many in this genre now. It is very low-key, told in the voice of a school boy as he goes through his day. It makes the allergies a part of life, rather than the main part, and although it mentions avoiding, getting sick, etc it is done in a casual and relaxed way. My kids like this one as well. This would be a great book to read to a classroom for some education and awareness, probably best in the pre-K/K/1/2 range.

I read this book to our second grade class because we have many students with severe food allergies. The kids loved the story and the characters and the children with allergies kept calling out, "Just like me!" Our students have been reading it during quiet time and connecting with the characters. The message is important: we do many things to keep ourselves safe, some of us have to also be careful what food we touch and eat to stay safe. It's important to remind adults as well who don't understand the severity of food allergies. Thanks for giving the world this book!

Great book for kids. I got this for my daughter who is five. We just found out her one year old brother has peanut and tree nut allergies. I think it would be good for kids 2 to 6.

I wish I found this book years ago. It is perfect. My 7 yr old daughter has had severe food allergies since she was 10 months old. Allergic to all nuts, shellfish, and dairy. We carry an EpiPen everywhere we go and she knows what she can and can't eat. However, her classmates and friends sometimes don't understand why she always has to bring her own food or own cupcakes to parties. This book takes a very simple approach to explaining food allergies to children that makes it seems a normal, natural part of life; which to my daughter it is. It doesn't make allergies seem weird or make out the child to feel excluded. Wish we had this when she was in preschool, would have made her life a lot easier - both for her and her friends to understand allergies better.

We absolutely love this book. Recently, my 2 1/2 year old son had a really bad reaction to coconut given to him by his babysitter, where we ended up at the hospital. Since then, we've been talking about his allergies, but I felt we were missing something in what we had to convey to him. We mostly said, you're allergic to coconut and nuts and you cannot eat them. However, this book covers everything, and it makes the subject fun and relatable: the main character is a food detective and talks about ways to keep safe with food allergies (like not sharing food, washing hands, school scenarios). It also helps explain what an allergic reaction is, and how it might feel. It has become one my son's favorite books, and we even read it to his friends and cousins too. It's a great resource to help educate the other little people in his life, himself and adults. I really recommend this book to people in a similar situation with a toddler with food allergies.
