More About the Author

Nickie Dumke enjoys helping people with food allergies and gluten intolerance find REAL solutions to their problems. Her quest to help others with multiple food allergies began 20 years ago and culminated in The Ultimate Food Allergy Cookbook and Survival Guide. This book has helped many people come back from near-starvation; her other books address issues such as time and money pressures on special diets, keeping allergic children happy on their diets (Allergy Cooking With Ease), and more.

She is now also helping those who are overweight due to allergic inflammation (often due to unsuspected food allergies) and/or high-in-rice gluten-free diets. Her unique approach to weight and health in Food Allergy and Gluten-Free Weight Loss is based on body physiology and reveals why conventional weight-loss diets work against rather than with our bodies and therefore do not result in permanent weight loss. To hear about hunger-free weight loss after many years of struggle without losing, see the review for this book by J. Trimble on the book's Amazon purchase page.

Nickie has had multiple food allergies for 30 years and has been cooking for special diets for family members for even longer. Regardless of how complex your dietary needs are or how much or little cooking you have done, she has the books and recipes you need. Her books present the science behind multiple food allergies and weight control in an easily-understood manner. She has BS degrees in medical technology and microbiology and lives in Louisville, Colorado.

I was really excited about this book until received it and glanced thru the recipes. If you have egg & dairy allergies I do not recommend this book. A large percentage of the recipes require eggs and many need cottage cheese, she even notes that eggs and dairy are common allergies but she includes recipes for people who can eat them. That would be fine if there were a few recipes with eggs, but the percentage of recipes with eggs and dairy products without good substitutions is too high.

So you are have a gluten intolerance, now what? This book attempts to answer that questions, particularly if you are trying to lose weight. The recipe section is numerous and does not contain "all healthy" recipes-merely recipes that have been "healthified." The reader does not need to worry about being told to stick to fruits and veggies his/her whole life.

One of the better portions of this book will help the reader customize his/her own personal plan towards weight loss. This should eliminate caloric intake and exercise problems. It is also great that the author took hormones into consideration when writing this book. One should, of course, consider body chemistry when attempting weight loss. The author is careful in suggesting what to do or not do, the reader will not feel talked down to. This book is recommended to anyone looking for a fresh take on weight loss...and needs the recipes and suggestions to be gluten free.

For years I tried to lose weight without success. I was eating very little but it didn't help. This book is what finally worked. I have lost over 10 pounds and have barely noticed that I am trying to lose because I am never hungry. The explanations of how to eat to lose are easy to understand and follow. My husband also decided to follow these guidelines and has done even better. With four more pounds, he will have lost 20 pounds. My doctor told me that all I needed was about 13 more pounds and all the areas that my blood work was out of balance will be corrected. Even with the weight I have lost, I was amazed at how well my tests came out for the first time in years. Also, I have multiple food allergies and needed a book that addressed weight loss along with food allergies. Thank you, Nickie, for writing this book.

Nicolette Dumke has done it again. A fact filled book that is 50% essential information and strategy and 50% yummy recipes, both of which can be adapted to any special dietary need: dairy free, soy free, gluten free, etc. I especially like the Lentil Spread (I am allergic to Brewer's Yeast, hence vinegar, a main ingredient in most sandwich spreads), Quinoa Stuffed Peppers (I have a slight wheat allergy), Turkey Curry, Turkey Piccata, Quick Stroganoff, and so many more. Thank you Nicolette Dumke. You provide a wonderful service to those of us with multiple allergies!
