His family was one of six related families that occupied the mansion. The second son of Italian immigrants, he grew up in Westport, Connecticut. After receiving a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Bridgeport he began his career marketing and installing accounting computers for the Burroughs Corporation. Twenty-one years later he started his own computer business in 1987. Today Carl lives with his wife Susan in Fairfield, Connecticut. He has three children, two stepchildren, and 12 grandchildren. His nickname, Tuchy, comes from having been one of three Carls in his family. There was a "Big Carl," a "Carl the Twin," and "Carluch," which meant "Little Carl." 5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For a Person With an Eating Disorder-Inspirational!, July 4, 2008
This review is from: The Food Contrarian: Quotes For People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Tuchy Palmieri's book "The Food Contrarian". With all of the eating disorders people have in the world today, this book is extremely helpful. He states many others have said "when reading on a daily basis, they gain insight, confidence, and courage to overcome their specific problem."
The quotes in this book are very inspiring. I am going to hang one page a week on my refrigerator to remind me I do not have to eat to feel better emotionally.
I especially liked the quote: "Food fight: When the food wins." How true that statement is!
The steps one must take to overcome their food addiction will be made easier to achieve by reading this book. I think Mr. Palmieri did a fabulous job on how he presented the list of steps. It is as if you are telling yourself you can meet your goal. You can be strong. You can do it!
I truly enjoyed the poetic pieces you can recite to yourself to make you feel loved and to give you confidence in times of need.
I highly recommend this to anyone who needs help losing weight or with anorexia, bulimia or any food disorder. The Food Contrarian is very helpful for a person recovering from a food disorder. This also would make a wonderful and caring gift to a friend or family member who needs help.

3.0 out of 5 stars Eating - We all do it., March 1, 2010
This review is from: The Food Contrarian: Quotes For People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues (Paperback)
This is a book that is directed at people with eating and weight problems. There are many words for thoughtful reflection in this book. It consists of a collection of quotations and sayings in general about food but frequently branching out into other problems people deal with.

A lot of the book is based on twelve step programs in general and overeaters anonymous particularly. Not being familiar with these twelve step programs leaves one confused about the meaning of some of the quotes but there are many others that can be thought provoking and inspirational.

You could sit and read through this book and ponder and analyze the quotes and how you can use them to improve your life or you can pick it up and read a section or even at random to get a quick pick me up. Comments like "Just as it does no good to fuel up a car and just leave it idling, it does no good to eat heartily and be a couch potato." can be very thought provoking.

"The Food Contrarian: Quotes For People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues" as presented by Tuchy Palmieri and Healing - Habits could be a useful book to have around for any one with eating problems.

3.0 out of 5 stars An aid all of us with eating problems., June 8, 2009
This review is from: The Food Contrarian: Quotes For People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues (Paperback)
The Food Contrarian is a collection of quotes/ sayings collated into groups to provide advice and guidance/ hope and direction for those of us that have eating/ weight problems as many of us have. Most of the information contained in this book comes from members of overeaters anonymous and similar meeting groups. The book states that it is based on their twelve step program. I myself have never attended one of these meetings and have no idea what the twelve steps are. I feel I would have had better understanding of the book and its organizational groupings if the program and the steps were to have been explained/ listed as part of a preface to the book. In spite of this disadvantage I found the quotes/ comments to be enlightening and encouraging. I feel that the book was designed to provide quick pick-me-ups for people in the program and to provide thoughts to ponder and words of advice. I can see that this collection will be useful and inspiring to all people with eating problems whither they are in a program or just working on their own. For those of us that have never been is a program like this some of the comments/quotes could use an explanation to go with them but the vast majority have understandable meanings as written. This is another good example of Tuchy Palmieri and Healing-Habits.com collaborating to produce good literature designed to help others.
