5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For a Person With an Eating Disorder-Inspirational!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Tuchy Palmieri's book "The Food Contrarian". With all of the eating disorders people have in the world today, this book is extremely helpful. He states many others have said "when reading on a daily basis, they gain insight, confidence, and courage to overcome their specific problem."

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For a Person With an Eating Disorder-Inspirational!, July 4, 2008
This review is from: The Food Contrarian: Quotes For People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues (Paperback)

The quotes in this book are very inspiring. I am going to hang one page a week on my refrigerator to remind me I do not have to eat to feel better emotionally.

I especially liked the quote: "Food fight: When the food wins." How true that statement is!

The steps one must take to overcome their food addiction will be made easier to achieve by reading this book. I think Mr. Palmieri did a fabulous job on how he presented the list of steps. It is as if you are telling yourself you can meet your goal. You can be strong. You can do it!

I truly enjoyed the poetic pieces you can recite to yourself to make you feel loved and to give you confidence in times of need.

I highly recommend this to anyone who needs help losing weight or with anorexia, bulimia or any food disorder. The Food Contrarian is very helpful for a person recovering from a food disorder. This also would make a wonderful and caring gift to a friend or family member who needs help.

3.0 out of 5 stars Eating - We all do it., March 1, 2010
This review is from: The Food Contrarian: Quotes For People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues (Paperback)
This is a book that is directed at people with eating and weight problems. There are many words for thoughtful reflection in this book. It consists of a collection of quotations and sayings in general about food but frequently branching out into other problems people deal with.

A lot of the book is based on twelve step programs in general and overeaters anonymous particularly. Not being familiar with these twelve step programs leaves one confused about the meaning of some of the quotes but there are many others that can be thought provoking and inspirational.

You could sit and read through this book and ponder and analyze the quotes and how you can use them to improve your life or you can pick it up and read a section or even at random to get a quick pick me up. Comments like "Just as it does no good to fuel up a car and just leave it idling, it does no good to eat heartily and be a couch potato." can be very thought provoking.

"The Food Contrarian: Quotes For People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues" as presented by Tuchy Palmieri and Healing - Habits could be a useful book to have around for any one with eating problems.

3.0 out of 5 stars An aid all of us with eating problems., June 8, 2009
This review is from: The Food Contrarian: Quotes For People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues (Paperback)
The Food Contrarian is a collection of quotes/ sayings collated into groups to provide advice and guidance/ hope and direction for those of us that have eating/ weight problems as many of us have. Most of the information contained in this book comes from members of overeaters anonymous and similar meeting groups. The book states that it is based on their twelve step program. I myself have never attended one of these meetings and have no idea what the twelve steps are. I feel I would have had better understanding of the book and its organizational groupings if the program and the steps were to have been explained/ listed as part of a preface to the book. In spite of this disadvantage I found the quotes/ comments to be enlightening and encouraging. I feel that the book was designed to provide quick pick-me-ups for people in the program and to provide thoughts to ponder and words of advice. I can see that this collection will be useful and inspiring to all people with eating problems whither they are in a program or just working on their own. For those of us that have never been is a program like this some of the comments/quotes could use an explanation to go with them but the vast majority have understandable meanings as written. This is another good example of Tuchy Palmieri and Healing-Habits.com collaborating to produce good literature designed to help others.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational albeit slightly hard to follow, September 22, 2008
This review is from: The Food Contrarian: Quotes For People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues (Paperback)
Tuchy Palmieri's The Food Contrarian follows on the heels of Sex and Intimacy: The Gifts of Life, Tuchy's Law And Other Contrarian Quotes To Help You In Life's Journey and Money And So Much More: The True Meaning of Wealth.

Everyone loves a good quote and Tuchy Palmieri's The Food Contrarian does not disappoint. The book, while inspirational and informational is a little hard to follow along at places. However, I did enjoy the quotes and found them to be extremely relevant to those suffering or recovering from any sort of addiction.

There is useful information in the form of AA plus 12-step program motivation. The Food Contrarian is definitely a must-have gift for anyone in your life with an addiction or buy it for your own book collection.

I enjoyed the book and think that others will too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slogans for your table, May 22, 2008
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Food Contrarian: Quotes For People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues (Paperback)
The book came across more as a book of slogans than quotes, and it can get repetitive. The structure seemed almost entirely set around 12 step program and Christian influence, and I would have liked to see it be a slightly more eclectic collection. It's obviously meant to be a book for reference, to keep on a shelf or coffee table and to glance through when you need a bit of inspiration or thought. And to that end, I found the outline and organization wonderful. He has the book separated into sections, so that you can easily find the readings on the topic of your choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars different gods for different people, February 3, 2011
This review is from: The Food Contrarian: Quotes For People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues (Paperback)
Each one us have something priority in our life. Few worship real God, some make their home as god, car as god, so on, last but not the least, few people make their stomach as god. They keep eating unwanted things all the time causing their body to get destroyed. They watch movie and keep eating, they go anywhere, always eating, they go to buffet, stay until all things wiped clean...author Tuchy really given a great screenplay on how these eating issues can be avoided and make a better life out of us. Good job.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different kind of diet book, February 3, 2011
This review is from: The Food Contrarian: Quotes For People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues (Paperback)
Carl Tuchy Palmieri's book "The Food Contrarian: Quotes for People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues" is a great resource for people dealing with an eating disorder or a weight issue. The book is a collection of sayings, quotations, proverbs and slogans that are intended to make you stop and think about your issues with food. A self-help book, one way to utilize it is to choose a quote, write it down and keep it with you to refer to throughout the day. You could also write your feelings and thoughts about the chosen quote. A would recommend this book to anyone that wants to change their way of eating or how they think about food.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book to inspire and motivate, February 3, 2011
This review is from: The Food Contrarian: Quotes For People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues (Paperback)
I found "The Food Contrarian: Quotes for People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues" republished by Carl "Tuchy" Palmieri to be filled with great advice and motivational tips that are for anyone struggling with a weight problem or an eating disorder. Being familiar with the 12 step program of Overeaters Anonymous, I recognized many of the general concepts of 12 step programs within the pages of the book. The sayings and quotes in the book provide inspiration in the "fight with food". If you are struggling with a weight issue or any type of eating disorder, give this book a try.

4.0 out of 5 stars SEAFOOD, January 16, 2011
This review is from: The Food Contrarian: Quotes For People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues (Paperback)
This Year's new years resolution was to get back in shape. I didn't set goals like weight loss just to feel better about myself and get back into the shape I once was. I started attempting to work out 2 days ago when I started this book, upon finishing it I really feel motivated to succeed. This book is directed towards people with eating disorders and though I don't have one I definitely believe I have benefited from reading and reflecting on it. Tuchy's book is full of quotes and sayings, many which I read and felt like he was directly talking to me...one such being, "I am on a see-food diet. I see food and I eat it". I love it. I have never been good at diets and that quote explains it. Although the book is motivational and can be directed to many aspects of someone's like I which he would have addressed fitness in this book, but perhaps in another.

4.0 out of 5 stars Think differently abuot food, January 16, 2011
This review is from: The Food Contrarian: Quotes For People Recovering From or Dealing with Eating Issues (Paperback)
"The Food Contrarian" by Tucky is a good book focusing on current eating disorders as well as recovery from them. I found it very insightful and helpful even though I do not have an eating disorder myself. It is filled with various adages on multiple topics and inspirational quotes to help the reader laugh and succeed. On of my favorite adages from the book is "It is not only what you eat that counts; it is also what you don't eat". Because as simple as it is, until reading the words I hadn't fixed on it. We grow up hearing what we eat counts etc etc but it is also important to note that what you are able to say no to is important also. I believe this book can benefit most people whether they need help or not, because it allows you to stop and think about things you normally would overlook as I had. I also feel very inspired to accomplish many more goals not even pertaining to food or eating after reading this book.
