5.0 out of 5 stars At last - a way of eating that works, January 19, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Food Doctor Diet (Paperback)
I love this book. It is a v. common sense approach and fits in with normal day to day living. Over the last three years I've been slowly cutting sugar, refined carbs and saturated fats out of my diet and going back to basic wholefoods. BUT, it's sometimes very hard not to reach for that slice of bread or a biscuit. And it's sometimes very hard to find inspiration from basic foods like eggs, yogurt, salads, meat and vegetables, potatoes and rice. This diet is what I've been trying to do, but just couldn't quite get the inspiration or the know-how. It takes all those basic ingredients and adds a lot more interesting ones and puts them all together so that the diet is no longer boring.

I've tried Atkins, and also mostly raw food diets. But they get a bit tedious after a while because they're not varied enough. This diet is based on common sense and eating sensibly. I started with the 7 day diet and really enjoyed the recipes (all very easy to make). My clothes were loose by the end of the week and it wasn't even hard to do! Now I follow the recommendations of how to eat healthy, and it's great. I always have something good in the fridge to snack on. The diet part is also a bit like a 7-day simple cooking course in that it shows you how to use herbs and spices to liven up your meals. The recipes at the back are very easy, but v. good and interesting. It has really expanded my repertoire of things that I now reach for every day. I've just bought the book for my sister, as she has some food intolerances, so she's going to give it a try too.

5.0 out of 5 stars If ever anyone got a food text right..., March 19, 2005
This review is from: The Food Doctor Diet (Paperback)
...then it would be this man. This is a highly sensible and helpful text that aims to address a lot of the dietry and digestive problems that have become a common part of modern day life. Don't assume it is about loosing weight, the word "diet", seems to have come to mean that and yet it so much more of an embracing word. This is just a good book about the most sensible kind of medicine, food and good food at that.
It should be in every home and in every Doctor's consulting room right next to their prescription book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Food Doctor Diet by Marber, January 27, 2004
This review is from: The Food Doctor Diet (Paperback)
This is an excellent work on the classic problems faced by people of all ages-at some stage of life. Namely; the collective
impact of parasites, yeasts and sugar can be very damaging to
the gastrointestinal tract and the inflammatory processes in
the body. The author provides a menu of fruits, veggies and
herbs to help deflect many of the most painful problems
of the gastrointestinal tract. The book is well worth the price
of admission. It should be in every health library.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Food Doctor Diet for Vegetarians and Vegans, February 4, 2005
This review is from: The Food Doctor Diet (Paperback)
This book well deserves the Bestseller slot it holds in the UK but despite it's claims to be suitable for vegetarians I'd advise looking over Mr Marber's shoulder.

They say behind every great man there's a great woman.....check out Yvonne Bishop-Weston BSc Dip ION MBANT at The Food Doctor.

If you have leanings towards vegetarianism then try her recipe book by Hamlyn (Vegan) ISBN 0600609154 - fantastic healthy recipes. It's based on the same kind of higher protein, lower or rather better carb, lower GI / GL (glycaemic load) type principles that have made Ian Marber so famous recently whilst battling out on British TV with other nutri-celebs.

It's also on special offer at Amazon! Enjoy

5.0 out of 5 stars Food doctor diet, October 13, 2008
This review is from: The Food Doctor Diet (Paperback)
The Food Doctors Diet is the best collection of dietary advice I have seen concentrated in one source. It combines the best advice I have received from my personal doctor, nutritianist and much reading over the years as I have attempted to assist me in my control of diabetes 2 symptoms. It is eady to use, easy to combine into tasty meals and seems to be doing the trick in terms of maintaining a healthy blood sugar level.
