Editorial Reviews

Review

"Food you will enjoy creating and everyone will enjoy eating" is Fran Warde's tenet and in this recipe book she teaches us just that. She removes the worry from dinner parties, the fretting of a bored, novice chef and suggests innovative ideas to make a meal with friends memorable. From picnics in the park to a cosy autumn dinner in front of a roaring fire, her recipes are simple to make, easily explained and deliciously tasty. Each suggested menu is accompanied by a work plan ensuring as much as possible is done in advance leaving the hostess more time to enjoy herself with her guests. Everyday entertaining in the form of impromptu suppers, Mediterranean lunches and weekend dining. Parties and celebratory meals such as New Years Eve dinner, Eastern feast and childrens tea parties. All eventualities and tastes are catered for, often with serving suggestions and table decoration hints to make the meal that extra special and personal. Drink accompaniments are included for those unsure of what to serve and the whole is gloriously illustrated with the photographs of Debi Treloar. So if you are looking for fresh ideas, look no further. Your friends will be knocking at your door forever after sampling these recipes - especially the chocolate risotto which is to die for...... - Lucy Watson --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Quick Menu Source October 11, 2002
Format:Hardcover
This is just an outstanding production of great, creative menus served with flair and taste and style and all presented in glorious full-color photos throughout with great instructions and helpful advice.

It is organized around events, e.g. Weekend Dings --- Sage and Stilton Flatbread; Roast Rib of Beef with Yorkshire Puddings, Carrot and Spinach Butter Mash, and Vin Santo Trifle.

With each is A Work Plan, Wine Suggestions, and Serving Suggestions.

Outstanding work which is so well done and very creative food!

5.0 out of 5 stars The book that started it all... September 7, 2006
By QT888
Format:Paperback
I had to write a review for this book b/c I owe my cooking skills to Fran Warde. Before this book, I was afraid to entertain. I'd make lasagna again and again. Something safe and easy. And then I happened to come across Fran's book at Z Gallerie and it changed everything. This book showed me that cooking can be simple, fun, and entirely worth it. Fran's recipes are easy to prepare, fun to look at (tons of colorful pictures), and is good for a cook at any level. Pictures are so important for the novice chef b/c it helps with plating and setting the tone and the photographer took such excellent pictures of the dishes. The cookbook is also very well written and easy to follow. Also, the end products are very complex, but you'd be surprised how easy it was to get the ingredients (all available at your local supermarket). I am planning to get Fran's other book as well. Anyway, it was because of this book that I moved onto more advanced cookbooks. I think everyone should give this book a shot! Thanks, Fran!

2.0 out of 5 stars too fancy
While I thought I would love this, I have yet to make a single dish from it. It is way to fancy for our taste and just not practical.
