Book Description

This book will appeal to readers of Calorie King Alan Borushek's CalorieKing 2013*** Please note: There is a newer edition of this guide now available. Please go to the all-new Food, Glorious Food book. ***

Food, Glorious Food is a comprehensive guide to nutrient values for more than 12,000 natural, packaged, and restaurant foods. Unlike other food count books, however, the information in this volume has been specifically formatted for the Amazon Kindle. Rather than squeezing numbers into narrow rows and columns, each entry is presented in the familiar nutrition label format, with resizable font and reflowable text. The book is easily searchable with active links and multi-layered indexes.

With such an extensive list of foods and search tools at your disposal, Food, Glorious Food will quickly become your reference guide of choice for selecting nutritious foods for yourself and your family.

  • Nutrition label format
  • All the nutrient counts you need: calories, fats, protein, and carbohydrates, including fiber, sugar, and "net carbs", cholesterol, and sodium
  • Active (clickable) Table of Contents, Main Index, and Chapter Indexes
  • Multiple serving sizes for most foods
  • Weights and measures in both US and metric formats (ounces/grams and fluid ounces/millilitres)
  • Fully searchable with the Kindle search function (keep in mind if testing the search, the sample only includes the first chapter, Baked Goods)
** Please note that table formatting in this book is not compatible with the Amazon Kindle version 1 (pre-2011 models) **

1.0 out of 5 stars It is not easy to search April 19, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am sure that the physical book would be a wonderful addition to anyone's library but the Kindle version does not have a reasonable search property. For instance, I tried finding out how many calories a potato had. Searching for 'potato' I came up with some 245 instances of potatoes. Potatoes in stews, potatoes in fast foods, potatoes au graten, potatoes with fried chicken, potato chips. But to find the calories in one potato was hardly possible. I finally found it on page 15 of 41 possible pages.

This book needs an index in which you can search for a word like 'potato' or 'peanut butter' and like a dictionary find:

Potato, chips
Potato, fastfood
Potato, stews

Peanut butter
Peanut butter, cookies,
Peanut butter, sandwiches
Peanut butter, candy

This excellent Book "Food, Glorious Food, The Kindle Carb and calorie counter is a must for every healthy conscience consumer. This ia another real hit for Maria Romana who has done extensive studies of thousands of foods that we eat on a daily basis. It is a complete guide to food counts especially degined for the kindle.

It is a compreshensive study with the results from the National based on the 2010 NSDA National Nutrient Datebased Standard Reference. Forget the the bulky books you carry around trying to determine the protein, caloreis and carbs of your favoirte foods. With just a click all this wonderful information is at your finger tips. You can search for food catagories such as meat and vegetables or look up your specific favoites foods such a Lamb Chops, or favoite vegetables.

This handy and and easy to read book contains over 12,000 items from the Basic Meat and Food groups, as well as, your basic snacks, Fast Foods and Resturants. It provides you with all of the pertinent information you need to select the proper foods for a healthier living.

It list the proteins, Calories, Fats and Saturated Fats, Cholestorl , Sodium, Carbs. Fiber, Sugars and much more information you need to select your favorite foods and still maintain a healthy liiving style. I especially liked the sections on Fast Food and Resturant information provided in this books. It even lists our favorite snacks.

This books has been throughly researched and it provides The nutrient values, serving size based on the the USDA recommndations. It provides a vast and large number of foods, in every catagory, that we use each day to help prepare our meals with healthy choices and help us stay on track with our diets. 3.0 out of 5 stars Carb and Calorie August 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Pretty comprehensive list of foods. Drawback for users in metric countries are that energy units are kCal. Also the naming of foods is American and is sometimes difficult to relate to foods available in other countries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting started.. April 22, 2012

Losing weight by reducing carbs in my diet was my plan, but I had no idea how many carbs were in foods and it was difficult to find out. This book has it all - and by having the portions in language I could understand was the best. The "How to Use this Guide" was so helpful in geting started and the index helped to get right to the foods in question. It got me started off in the right to just keep it up!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect addition to any kitchen! January 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is such a wonderful addition to my everyday life! First, I must rave about how this book is indexed. I can very easily find just about any food my heart desires. Also, it has a full listing of the foods nutritional information. And it is very easy to read. I appreciate how I can quickly use this book. I honestly don't know how I managed to control my daily eating without this resource!

5.0 out of 5 stars In-depth Food Data February 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought the Kindle version for my keyboard (Gen 2) Kindle. This book is based on the vast USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference, Release 23 from 2010. The most current USDA version is Release 25, but "Food, Glorious Food" has an amazingly deep selection of foods (probably over 8,000 entries). I find it especially useful that it lists various quantities and portion sizes, making it easier to estimate nutrient contents of what I'm eating. The Table of Contents and Active Index work well once you try it a bit. Of course the Kindle Search is my most frequent go-to, but it may give you 10-15 pages of finds that you can page through.

If you eat a lot of chain restaurant and "brand" food, you might also look at "The CalorieKing, Fats & Carbohydrate Counter 2012."

4.0 out of 5 stars great for diabetes January 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
So far, I have found every food that I have looked for. I like the net carbs and the presentation. Also the measurements are easy to use. The foods are easy to find, 3 possibilities: "search for...", table of contents/index "alphabetical order" or under main headings such as vegetables, fruits, etc. This is a very complete guide and has helped me a lot to count my carbs. And it's very accurate. No surprises when I calculate my insulin.

A deep ocean of indexed food stats awaits downloading onto your Kindle. This is a great reference resource for cooking at home or eating out. It's very well organized and hotlinked so you can access all the nutritional stats about a type of food or ingredient quickly and easily. It gets you quickly from the general to the specific, say for example pork chops, the guide hotlinks you directly to specific types and grades of meat and the stats about each. A very well put together helpmate for choosing food.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but too much stuff to wade through
While I appreciate the comprehensive nature of the "book," it would also be useful to have a more nearly generic guide. (Perhaps I've not yet spent enough time with it.)

I found it confusing. I know my calories pretty well, but when there's a new item I'd like to look up, it takes too long.
